Hi, What year is the bike ? I presume it is a Nomad ?
I think there was a factory recall re gas tanks leaking. I think you can go to Kawasaki website and enter your VIN number for recall info ? Hopefully others will chime in with more information.

The tank is under the seat not the other way around, and if is a Factory Recall and a whole new tank is called for. Bad weld, don't even try to fix this.

The bad part is the dealer needs the whole dammned bike or they won't touch the warrenty.

Do I have the link? No.... The bike should be under warrenty for this till the bike goes to the scrap yard. It is a recall.... This is a odd recall since the bike was not called in for the repair, which is a new tank. I guess Ma Kawii let it slide to see who and when would get the problem.

ma kawii pulls some wild stunts this way....

There was a recall for the rubber gweebow in the 01 rear wheel. I found out after a crash, where a dealer charged both my Ins and Ma Kawii for it.

I considered that illegal and told my INS Co, and for one reason or another they didn't care....

I personally examined the parts and found them to be fine as well. I didn't know and wasn't told either. I found out reading the repair slips part list.

Since your in Fla, I would stuff some paper towels in under the leak and ride the bike to a dealer. Let them see the problem and then they will order a new tank.

That will take days.. I would leave the bike right there. If you want to be nice about it, call first..

just an update,, friend went to stealer and the checked the vin# and it didnt match the recall #'s, so he went back and called Kawasaki direct and asked and said if something happens to him while riding his wife will have a law suit forth coming,,, Kawasaki said bring it to the nearest dealer and have them call,,, hence 3 days later he had a brand new tank from Kawasaki, SWEET

A very similar thing happened to me with the 08 Shadow Aero I own.
In my case it took a year.. ???.. but now I am getting a brand new 09 for nothing. It will be for the wife http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
On my side it was a leaky petcock that had been serviced 4 times within 6 months for the same issue.
In Ohio that qualifies for the Lemon Law.
So...in the event that any of you ever have to climb a mountain of s#$t just to resolve an ant hill's problem.
www.lemonlaw.com Long story short... ;)

In this case it is a bad weld, done by a robot, between the upper tank shell and the lower....

Hey Mac, he was talking about the rubber part of the seat that slips under the latch on the tank.

HUH? on a Nomad? Where the white nylon lug anchors? That goes into a bolted on bracket and does not contact the tank.

Forward of that but not much is where the welded seam is.

The seat rest on top of the tank enough to mess up some paint.

If I am wrong it is I am lost i guess.

I had the same leak on my 06 Nomad. The weld for the bracket that the 2 rear bolts go through went too deep and they welded through the tank. It takes awhile for the leak to show itself as it's usually just a tiny, tiny pinhole and the gas has to eat through the paint. Once it does, look out! You'll be leaking all over the place.

Mine was replaced, free of charge, and the bike was a couple of months out of warranty. Good thing, they quoted me a price in the neighborhood of $1100 for a new tank, installed. Ouch. The service manager did say if it came to it and kawi didn't replace it, he would get the weld fixed and then have the tank repainted for me.

It all worked out and I have a new tank. Good thing, I hade some stone chips in the front of the old one. The new one looks nice.
