Just wanted to say thanks for the post below. I finally found a pair on Craigslist -$50.

Your installation instructions will come in handy. I had a couple more questions. These are off a stock Valkyrie. The tips I bought are 10" long on the short side of the tip and 12" long on the long side of the tip. Do I need to cut them down in length or just install as is?

Has the screw you drilled into the stock pipes caused any issues?

Thanks
Greg

Greg,

Watch ebay for the tips. You can pick up a set for under $75 if you are patient. I got mine for a little over $60 shipping included. The ID of the tips are a shade larger than the OD of the pipes. But that's not a problem. They slide over the ends of the pipes until the ends meet the rectangular shape of the tips. Prop the bike so that it is standing level and you can eyeball the tips or use a small torpedo level to make sure they are both perfectly vertical. There are 3 holes in the tips that you can use to secure them onto the pipes with sheet metal screws. I put one SS screw in each tip to hold the tips in place after drilling a pilot hole in the pipes. They don't move because the end of the pipes are jammed into the beginning of the rectangle ID of the tips. They look great and add more of a rumble to the debaffled pipes. You can put more than one screw on each tip if you remove the bags or jack the bike up to drill into the bottom fastener holes. Keep your eye on ebay or check with any buddies that had or have Valkyries and switched to aftermarket pipes. Good luck.

Greg, just thought I would jump in and say I installed fishtail tips with the metal screws and they have cause me no problem at all.
I put three in each tip. I didn't want to have them fall off http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Greg, that is the same measurements as mine. I just pushed them on as far as I could then tapped them tight with a rubber mallet. On the top side the extend 4" passed my lower saddle bag rails. I do drag them going off a curb or sometimes on a sharp gutter coming out of a parking. I have even dragged them when I lean over on exiting a drive. Not often. I put two stainless steel screws on each side, no rust of problems after the first year.

You're golden schoeney. Just install them as is. I used self-tapping stainless steel screws to secure them.
I'd be surprised if it takes you more than 5 minutes for both. Enjoy!

Greg,

Those are the same tips that I have. You did well on the price. As the guys above stated, just slide them on until the muffler ends jam into the rectangular ID of the tips. No cutting is needed. I put one screw in each and they are well secured. No issues with the screws in the stock pipes. I did scrape the right tip today leaning over a little to far making a right turn. It actually made a small dent on the inboard end of the tip and scraped about 3 or 4 inches back at about 5:00 o'clock. Can't see it unless I lay down on the concrete. I'm sure it will eventually rust at that location but who cares, can't see it standing up or leaning over to look. The rumble is a little deeper than the de-baffled pipes alone. Sounds really good. They do make a difference in the tone. You'll like them Greg.
