View Full Version : EXO 100 Half Helmet

It was 83 degrees here today (you listening CJ?) so I got my first chance to pull out the new Scorpion half helmet.

I have never worn anything but full face in all my years of riding dirt + street bikes. It was a little weird to say the least.

I felt a little naked without the chin bar and my nice quiet "cocoon". When all of you would say how noisy your Nomads were I thought I must have got a "quiet" one but with the half helmet I find out I didn't! ;)

I will need to get some earplugs when wearing this cap.

On the plus side I have better peripheral vision and I can hear traffic as it comes up on either side of me.

This helmet has one of those "drop down" visors that tucks away nicely when not in use.....I couldn't really think of when I would use this feature as I will be wearing some type of safety or sunglasses at all times anyhow. Oh well the visor may come in handy hose 2-3 times a year I lose or sit on my sunglasses http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

Needless to say this is a lot cooler and much more airflow than my EXO 400 FF.

I bought this to beat the heat, I already have the EXO 400 FF that I am real happy with, and my neighbor has been telling me how much he loves his EXO 100.

Scorpion helmets just seem to be a good fit for my odd shaped head.

If you are looking for a half helmet this is worth checking out. It runs $110 most everywhere (in gloss black..$120 for other colors).

I wear a half helmet even during winter riding. I have never worn a full face so I guess our situations are completely opposite. I wear the HJC Vulcan and I have a 3/4 Bell. Both black while the Vulcan has some designs. I wear the ear plugs mainly because of the wind noise. Working in this noisy plant and competing in handgun shooting has taken its toll on my hearing. I need to conserve what's left. I might try one of the Scorpion half helmets later. Are they pretty comfortable?

04-21-2009, 05:25 AM
yep they are nice. I would not buy anything else.

Thanks for the review....I have been looking at that helmet all winter....might have to pull the trigger. I am wondering, helmets make a difference in buffeting...Did you notice any problems with this one??

My neighbour just bought a Scorpian full face helmet on the weekend, while we were out riding he commented on how much he liked it so far that day. It has a lot of neat features in it, helmets seem to have come a long way over the years.

I bought one back in March and love it. The ear curtains help to cut down on noise.
The pop down sheild is good for when you leave your sun glasses at home

I mostly jkust wear a half lid(NexL) brand which is pricey but the lightest half lid on the market.

Lets see,
Beanie Helmet=No protection
Half Helmet=1/2 protection
Three Quarter Helmet=3/4 protection
Full Helmet=Full protection
I'll stay with the full face thank you. It's just my opinion, wear what you want,I'm just saying...............

04-21-2009, 09:38 AM
Todd, I have worn one for a year now and their is basically no buffeting compared to with my full face one. It is the best helment I have ever owned.

04-21-2009, 10:16 AM
Of course Todd, they may not make a XXXXXXXXL size. :)

I have an EXO-100 myself, in flat black. Probably the most comfortable helmet I have worn. I also have a KBC Vulcan and an HJC Vulcan (the one with the Kawasaki Vulcan graphics). All are excellent helmets. Since they are half helmets, I guess I'm only half-smart, according to some folks. ::)

Terrebonne- Yes. This helmet is comfortable.

TC- I hear ya....I am doing something I never thought I would do...wear anything but full. BUT the trade off is I do hear and see better and it sure is cooler. I only intend to wear it over 75 degrees so any mishaps will have to happen when it is cooler!

Todd- This helmet had no buffeting on my initial ride on the freeway at about 65mph. That is without any engine guard chaps and the stock lowers. My FF does buffet some (not unbearable) without the engine guard chaps. I just ordered Chucksters lowers so we will see if that helps.

I've had one since last year and overall, I like it as well. One thing I would complain about is that I'd like the chin strap angled forward a bit more. When it sits right on my head, the strap kinda presses into my throat.

It has to be the helmet design - it can't be my chubby neck or anything... :)

I have the EXO-100 as well. Overall a decent helmet, one of the more comfortable ones I have had. Only really use it around town though.

it has a slimming effect ....Only on your head ::)

I changed from full face(yes all my life) to half helmet when I got the Nomad - Have worn one in temps down to the 20's and just supplement with a scarf. I might pull out my fullface if I have to leave in the rain - but it hasn't happened in a year and a half.

I can see and hear better and I am at least wearing a helmet...that's all I'm saying

I wonder if anyone has experience with the Shoei St. Cruz? They usually make very good products, although more expensive than others.

I never said anything about smart. I just contend you are only half protected
I just feel better with a full face helmet. I agree people should be able to wear what ever they feel comfortable with.

Interesting subject to me! I wear both full and half. Love the feeling of the half but feel it for sure doesn't offer the protection of a full face. After having one accident and now really beliveing in armoured clothing ( joe rocket or Bohn) and haveing armour from toe to neck, I would hate to skid on my face and have only face injuries. Crazy eh! Oh and the full face is great in rain :)

I've worn the 100 all winter. Good helmet but it was a size smaller than usual. Try it on before you buy. Never worn a full. I tried to put on on last year but couldn't get it all the way on without freak'n out first.

I guess I might be TC, with helmets anyway. And now I'm sure I'll never be the Jeff Gordon of anyone's dreams :-/ :-[

However, for 30m a year, I could get over it - I guess?

Got a great fitting and feeling full face and will wear it until the heat does me in and then it is back to the 1/2, which feels really liberating. The new full face looks and feels almost like the 1/2 but still a little too confining, I know, pretty meaningless when your sliding along the ground on your chin but those are the chances we take...

Well, I rode down to RideNow in Concord NC and bought an exo100 Sunday and have since put about 350 miles riding with it on.

Gotta say I love it. Here a plus that I have heard no one mention. You can wear your regular glasses (sun for me, but I know some are wearing prescription) with plenty of room behind the shield. Gives me more protection from the sun. Also, the shield is light enough in color that it works well for night riding by itself. Did about 50 miles with it so far at night and vision is great.

It is the most comfortable helmet I have ever had, although a little heavier than a beanie. I took the visor off and threw it on a shelf like I do all my helmets...just don't like the visor, they catch wind IMHO......with the shield down this helmet has very little movement, if any, from wind/pressure. Probably the least movement of any helmet I have had.

If you are looking for a 1/2 helmet.....I'd recommend the exo100.

Thanks to schoeney and all that responded on this thread about the exo100.....it was good info that allowed me to go on and pull the trigger.....

Ain't KawaNOW great! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I told you the EXO-100 was very comfortable. You won't be sorry you bought one.

Jeez...how tall are you? You're coming pretty close to the top of that door jamb. I may regret the bighead line.

you guys should be salesman. After reading all of your comments about this helmet I just had to try one on today while I was at Open road leathers here in Jacksonville. Both the wife and I thought they were very comfortable and told the owner Lance that we would be back in a week or two to buy two of them.
I really like the pop down visor, thats pretty slick. Honestly I don't normally wear a helmet except in the winter or when I travel out of Florida (which doesn't happen much). However, I'm hoping to make it to sturgis this year and this helmet would be nice to have.
