View Full Version : Good windshield bag?
As a new Nomad owner, I need a handy place to put my garage door opener and glasses. My last bike's tank bears the scuffs from a small tank bag - I think a windshield bag would be better. Is there a specific windshield bag that works well on the stock Nomad 1600 windshield?
Thanks,
Tim W

I think it would depend on if you had after market risers.
I have a clearview windshield and Phat 2 risers.
The bag I bought from a member here is a quality bag but I could not make it fit without drilling a hole in the windshield.
I know some would never do that but for me form follows function.
I am reluctant to give up the OEM cup holder (space between the handlebar risers and the windshield) ;) so I use the pocket on my Engine guard chaps from PH Customs for eyeglass and garage door remote storage. It has a top flap that secures with a snap closure.

I got the large bag from kawasaki. I have phat 2 risers and it fits fine. No clearance issues. It bolts right to the 2 center bolts on the windshield.

Ive got stock windshield with Phatt ll risers and I use a Ironhorse leather bag. Bolts right up to the two center wintershield bolts. Works great. Bought in Dennis Kirk catalog.

Ok, I'm prepared for the laughing after you all read this post. I bought a $10 fanny pack from K-Mart to use as my bag. I can take it off and such whenever I want. Let the laughing commence.

sounds something like what the Beezer has but from Walmart
Doc - do you happen to have the part number for your bags? I looked at their site and can't figure out which ones you have.

Hey CoachA, if it works that's great. I''m all for fancy, but I'd rather spend my money on function, than form. I don't have a windshield bag, but I did put a Cannondale bicycle seat bag in the space behind the license plate, hangs off the rack. LOL.

Michael: I did look up my bag and you can buy it at motorcycle superstore for $70.99, I dont see a stock number, sorry. go to that web site and look under accessories. and its the Silverado studded bag. maybe some place else sells it cheaper also.

I tried one for while but, with Phat II risers mind you, it was squashed in there and rubbing on the polish off the risers. I went to this alternative and found it much better IMHO. A little pricey but very well made and fits perfect.

http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gifI am not putting a windshield bag on my new windshield. They always leave a very obvious mark where the top hits the windshield after repeated openings. I am going to get a spare opener and modify it. Mount it somewhere out of sight and wire it to a push button on my bars. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I have the Kaw large plain windshield bag K53000-150C. I think it is actually for the Drifter because when you refine any windshield bag search for the Nomad, you get nothing.
It is very roomy. In fact, it is BIG. When it arrived, I thought it would take up the whole shield, but once you mount it it doesn't seem so large. You're also gonna think it will sit too high when you see that the mounting holes are at the bottom of the bag, but it is fine.

lw,
I spent $5 at the local bicycle shop and got a water bottle cage that bolts on the handle bars. Works Great. I can't use it for morning coffee in the cheap foam cups but if I use my own cup with a good lid on it I get no spills.
I have been looking for a good windshield bag to put the small items in as well.

BillyBoy do you have risers on with that bag? The holes at the bottom are actually better since I have risers.

No risers, but they could be an issue. The bag is large and wide and, because of the windshield curve, stands away from the windshield a bit in the center.
I would ask folks with firsthand experience.
Thanks for all the excellent suggestions, that Kaw large bag looks like it might be what I need if the leather shop doesn't have something similar for a few less $$$

Genuine simulated ballistic nylon, with zippers and such and a strap that I put around the risers. $10, cheap, cheap.
