This weekend I decided to take it off...my windshield that is. Nico and Blowndodge, I know where your minds were going and you should be proud of yourselves.

It's a very...different feel without a windshield, but I figured with the temps rising to the 100 mark this week I might want a bit more air on the ride home. Has anyone else done this and what were/are your thoughts.

I know the first time I rode my lid almost chocked me since I tightened it to my normal tightness. I realize now how much wind that shield eliminates, not to mention those annoying little pebbles. :-/

Haven't taken mine off yet, but it is coming soon, if for no other reason than to clean those annoying "tweeners" that find their way betwixt the panels of plex. When I do "take it off", I will replace the allen head bolts with thumbscrews ala Gadget's site for easier future removal.

Yep, don't forget to keep you mouth closed too - unless you want to eat some bugs. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gifLOL

It would be cool if I had a much smaller replacement windshield to prevent bug ingestation like unwind2 said. Just to keep crap off the face. I would do it in the hot southern cal summers for sure..

Bug ingestion - extra protien!

It amazes me how a bug can find it's way around the windshield, under the helmet visor and smack you right between the eyes.

I thought I was the only one amazed at their ability to hit exposed spots. like on the back of your knuckles with half gloves or the throat!!

Unwind, even rain hits like rocks! I had a stinger stuck in my adams apple for about 20 minutes and finally pulled over and removed it! boy, was I swearing!! how in the bleep can a bleebing bee hit me stinger first in the bleeping throat! I've reserved myself to accepting any exposed flesh can and will be hit over and over again!

A couple weeks ago something came in between my left mirror and the windshield and smacked me at the corner of my mouth and face cheek (didn't want any misunderstanding here). Almost knocked me off the bike. All I saw was a shadow and then smack. I think "but not sure" it was a Humming bird, because it felt like I had little fuzzy feathers on my face and up my nose,. My mouth was sore for a couple day after that direct hit. Ya'll ride safe.........

Nico, I'll send out a search party for your mind. Hopefully they will find mine too.

blowndodge- You're right as rain...hehe get it 'right as rain'.

We were driving, it was raining, weather was getting worse and worse. The stinging was getting worse then I realized, 'hey, that's not rain - that's hail!'. We were on the interstate but got off the first opportunity.

bd, thats ok, My wife got a kick out of it also. She was behind me on her bike when we pulled over at the watering hole, she ask me what i was doing a few mile back. She said it looked like my neck went back then the bike wobbled right then left. I told her what had happened and she still giggles about the feathers......

I took my shield off just to see how it would look without one and I think it looks good. I also what the hell I will take it for a spin. Well I got up to hwy speeds 80/90 mph and a rather large flying beetle decided to commit suicide by hitting me in the chest this thing hit so hard it knocked the wind out of me. Yes I am sure it was a bug do to the massive splat mark on my shirt.

Personally, I wouldn't want to ride without one. Been hit twice by bugs - EWWWWW - once in the arm, once in the leg. The one in the arm musta been a wasp or bee 'cause it left a stinger in. Guess I was coming up behind it - LOL!!! Don't even wanna think about being hit in the face - YUCK!!

Bug ingestion - extra protien!

Or how a bee can fly around the windshield, get through the opening of the top of the riding jacket, get under your t-shirt and start having a little fun...................

Ask me how I know that...............

Heheheheh...sorry, brought back memories :)

One of our 750 group Vulcan Vixens (we've been callin' y'all that for years, Judi http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif) who is also a Wrench Wench (works on her own bike) had exactly that happen. Quite a sight it must've been, to see her going down the road literally trying to tear her tank top off http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I wish I could ride without a windshield- but where I live with all the construction thats the same as asking a bunch on kids to throw rocks at me.

Well, my experiment of riding without a windshield has come to an end. After multiple pebble facials and too much wind in my ears, I decided to follow the advice from the safety board and lower my windshield so I get plenty of air, but none of the other problems.
