I am going to put an xm on the nomad I am wondering how to tie it in electrically. The auxiliary leads are hot all the time so is a relay needed and is there a ignition switched wire in the battery area to energize the relay or can I just add it to something else without a problem the xm power supply has it's own fuse so maybe that helps somewhat... You would be fine using the accessory 12v connection in the headlight bucket to power an XM radio. If it were a 100W amp or something, I'd advise you to run a dedicated circuit from the battery.
If it were me, I would connect the 12v accessory power to a relay and then connect the coil side of the relay to a switched power source, like one of the running lights. That way the radio only has power when the ignition switch is on.
