I'm looking to upgrade my stereo and was wondering what everybody else has. :-/ I bought my nomad with a Clarion AM/FM CD Stereo the FM works fairly well around towns but not up in the Mountains and my CD is always skipping with the vibration of the bike. I don't want another bill so XM is out for me. I would like a stereo that plays CD and I also seen some stereo that have USB plugs & SD card slots. Whats everybody have? :-/

I have a 30GB Zune I mount in a RAM mount on the handlebars. I have a 6' headphone extension cable I ran under the tank and it comes out between the seat and the tank. That's where I connect my helmet speakers or clip-on headphones.

I have over 6,000 songs on the Zune, so no need for CDs.

Don't have it yet, but have been looking at one of these units:

Personally no opinion on it, just wish it was black. I have heard it is pretty good though.

I use an Ipod shuffle. Small, simple and cheap. I have isolated ear plugs I can use, but I bought a set of bar mount speakers with a 100 watt amp for $50, and I've got music. I don't think I'll use it much around town because it's somewhat annoying at stop lights. It's OK, but not the best sound, but then again, dealing with wind noise, what are you really going to hear. Got it here:

My first AM/FM/CD player worked well until I drowned it washing the bike one day, It was a Pioneer unit, I replaced it with another Pioneer that isn't near as good with the CD playing,it skips a lot on bumps co pared to the first unit. I still use it for the radio portion but have an Ipod for my other tunes, which works out really well.

I just installed a J&M system on my bike. I can hook up my iPod to it. Let you know when I get back next week from my trip on how it works.

I installed the CB2003 last year, the helmet speakers have very little low end for me (J&M elite H/O headset), and every song sounded the same. Actually was the same with the IMC system I had before the J&M as well. I am very interested to hear what you think though.

Wow.. I didn't know you could get some speakers with an amp for that cheap. Could you let us know a little more about them? Thanks!

No offense, but personally I'd just get a different set of pipes first.

I have a unit by Blaupunkt with the sd card slot. You can also add a cd or mp3 to it from the front. I need better speakers and maybe a small amp. Got it with the Premeux fairing. The SD card works very well and you don't have to carry CDs.

The kit comes with everything you need but the MP3 player, so any brand player you have will work. There isn't much bass on this system, they use 3" water proof speakers. There is another company that sell the same thing for twice as much, but they have a better description of the kit.
http://www.dwgspeakers.com/
They want you to mount the speakers to the mirrors, but I had a set of 1" brackets and used those instead to mount on the handle bars. You can hear them at 70 mph so volume is not an issue. The amp came with a high and low filter, power switch with light and a volume control. I had a relay in my headlight bucket (for running lights) that I used for power, that way when the bike is off, the amp is also off. Then again, if I turn the running lights off, there is no power amp. I just didn't want to forget and leave my amp on. For $50, it will take care of some road slab boredom. Total install took about 1/2 hour.

MP3 Player with ear buds..Actually the ones that have a hook that goes on the top of the ear.
Simple, portable, and doesn't draw any amps off the bike..

Not too bad for $50!

Except a set of V&H's baggers. ;)

I have a I-pod and I have a Myfi XM portable radio. I use Shure ear phones and they really sound good.

Just bought a portable AM/FM radio that clips to my belt with ear buds. $10....I can save that $300 to $500 and put it one many more things for the bike. Just installed my gps the other day and I can actually hear the lady's voice when the wind's not blowing very hard, that windshield works great.

I just ordered this one after seeing them on two buddies' bikes. They are pleased with them, and if I don't like it, I'm not out a whoooole lot of money. It is similar to the Caddman11's but has radio as well. Unless I'm riding local, I'll probably be pushing my ipod through it.

I installed one of these setups on my buddy's 1500 Classic last year. They aren't bad, but the cables aren't long enough especially if you mount the amp in a saddlebag. They are just RCA cables and you can buy longer ones. Other than that, it is a decent system for the money. He says it's good up to about 55 MPH, then the wind drowns out the speakers.

Correction: the system I installed was an amp only - no radio. My friend plugs his iPod into it.

Well ive had a ron`s set up on my bike for apx 4-5 yrs now even so, the cd`s would skip over a rough bump or road & got tired of that & switching cd`s so, i just added an mp3 player that plugs right in. now no skipping & 250-300 songs on command.

Package was on the doorstep this afternoon when I got home. On the one you installed on the 1500, where did you connect for power?

LW.. did you get it installed yet.. what do you think? the 100 watt model is only 25 rms per channel, so pretty small really. I'm curious on the difference between say this and rumble roads or uniq speakers.

Havent had the chance to install it yet. Power failure at work tuesday caused a lot of extra work to recover from it, and even the prospect of tunes without ear buds wasnt enough to motivate me att he end of the days this week. Chemical plants don't take it too well when the DCS control computers lose their power while the UPS is seperated for maintenance. I am working 12-hour nights for the next 9 in a row (Except for today- Sarah had a track meet across town). If I don't get it hooked up tomorrow afternoon before work it will probably be my next off day before I git-er-done.
I'm still trying to decide where/how to mount the radio/Amp unit. Friend of mine has his in a windshield bag so it is protected from most weather. Might try the fanny-pack method I read about previously for a temporary fix while I explore the options.

I have mine in my windshield bag and it works pretty good there, also easy to get to to plug the MP3 player in.
