Last year I put together a ride on the Talimena trail in Oklahoma and Arkansas, we had a great time couldnt ask for better riding partners. I am looking to do the same this year, kind of like a fall rally, 2 or 3 days. Some great rides, a full blown barbeque, live music and whatever else I can come up with. If you all are interested let me know, it will take place in either October or November. Lets all get together and celebrate the end of another great riding season!

Not being able to make the ES, or the main rally this year, I'd love a shot at a fall rally. Will keep up with interrest and do all I can to make this one. Funny, I was just thinking about that ride for our honeymoon the week of the 23rd of May.

Are you sure they'll let you in Al? As I recall that waitress was pretty hot for you ;) Or is that hot at you? lol

I plan to attend Nightmare. Last year's get together was a lot of fun. Have they improved the motels since we stayed at that "lovely" place last year? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I have now. BTW, how was that Triumph for distance riding?

wanderer
04-22-2009, 06:39 PM
The Triumph was great EXCEPT the handlebars. They suck! The Nomad is my true love though. The Triumph will just be a toy to play with occasionally, and to ride when there is a chance of rain. I don't like polishing all the Chrome on the Nomad. The Triumph has black engine cases, and very little chrome.

Rode with a group from Houston/Pasadena to the Talimena the last weekend in October last year and caught the foliage in full "fallness" The temps were mild enough to be able to lose the jacket by noon if you chose to.
Trip was a blast and I'm looking forward to making it again at the next opportunity that works with my shift schedule.

Liz and I would like to ride down but anything later than October could be a no show for us.

nightmare
05-18-2009, 04:23 PM
I think I have a good date for the ride and rally, October 16,17 and 18th 2009. On these dates are also the Robbers Cave Fall Festival which features a fantastic car show, 400 to 500 cars show for this every year. Also there are vendors of every kind live entertainment and a beautiful ride up there. We can make this a day event for us, and then the other days I have a ride across the Talimena trail and also a ride to the west to visit an old west movie set and ghost town. What do you all think??

05-18-2009, 04:48 PM
I'm in if it's not too cold. The last few October rides I did, we almost froze to death. I swore I wouldn't ride with it that cold again.

What do you guys consider cold? Rick, Teresa, Liz and I went to Memphis, TN October of 07 and it was 25 degrees F. when we left.

Below the high 40's is pushing my limits. Seems every trip I do that time of year it drops to the 30's and the wind is blowing 40 mph and probably raining too.

Well, we just got back and although we didn't get in as much riding as we would like, the Talimena Ride was one we did for sure. That is some beautiful riding. Well worth the trip. We went one day too soon. The next day there was a peak to peak rally. Mena could certainly use the business. There is still a lot of tornado damage although most of the town is back together.

Liz requested time off for the ride dates and travel time. So if her time off is approved and the weather is good we will be there. Now I guess I need to know exactly what motel everyone is staying at and get a room booked.

HI everyone, sorry about being slow on information about the ride, still healing up and putting the Nomad back together, IT IS Finally complete!!!! and looks better than ever!! As far as lodging we have 3 motels in town, Antlers Budget Inn that is were everyone stayed the last time, and the Highway Inn that just opened, they are a little pricey around $80 a night, Antlers Budget Inn is about half that and I am trying to work a deal for a rate of $30 a night for our members. The 3rd motel I would not recommend people have had bad experiences there. I am going to go talk with the Highway Inn and see if we can get a reduced rate. Will keep you posted on the motels, and the rooms I am trying to block for our event. Hope to see everyone there!!
