I will be making an appointment with the dealer to change the oil and filter before the Custer trip. This is all I have ever had done to the bike (besides new tires and debaffled pipes :)). It has 18,252 miles on it.

What else should I have him check/ change/lube? :-/
Thanks in advance for all the advice. ;)

Nancy; You should check over the whole bike for fluids, brake pads etc, I just replaced my rear brake pads after 20,000 miles and I see your getting close to that. there is a post ongoing where guys are talking about maintenance and stuff, check it out.

Change the final drive oil, how are your tires? Have you had the swingarm and drive shaft greased?

Your bike is almost 2 years old, I would also go ahead and have the antifreeze, brake, clutch fluids and fork oil changed before the trip. Be sure to replace the air breather if your still running a paper filter. And if you don't have a cruise control now would be a good time to have one installed. It will be nice to have on the trip especially if running boring interstates. Also a drink holder is nice so you can keep some water handy and have a drink on the road.

A Grasshopper rider's Back Rest & Hiway pegs are in order for long trips. When installed, you will have a comfortable 70 mph lounge chair on the Interstate.

Unwind2: Check out this website. I gives a listing of things you might want to take with you. It's almost as good as Trip's list. Dave/BnG

I'm sure there is an online manual somewhere, but because I'm too lazy to go find a link for it to include in this post, I scanned the three page maintenance schedule from my Kaw service manual. Here is what Ma Kaw says needs to be checked and at what interval.

I just had the 15K service done, albeit 2000 miles late. My rear tire might be iffy by June; and if so it will be replaced pre-trip along with a fresh oil change.
