My brother surprised me today! He bought himself a brand new Honda VTX 1800T. Beautiful bike....almost as good looking as the Nomad! Nice 2 tone black + cherry...spec 2 with all the chrome goodies.
He asked me to come over to his house to move a piece of furniture. Had me wait outside the garage and opened the door...I was stunned. He sold his Valkyrie when he retired (LEO) and moved up to Washington. That was about 4 years ago. We have never ridden together because we lived far apart (now we only live 15 minutes apart) and he usually had a bike when I didn't and visa versa...he is 62 and I am 50.
I knew when I bought my bike last year he would get the itch but didn't think he would pull the trigger, especially after several weeks of talking about it and doing nothing. He also had a space issue in his garage that I thought would keep him from adding a toy. He is very anal about his 3 car garage and already has a big Tundra, a SUV, and his prized Vette...but somehow he worked it out and has them all in the garage.
I went on vacation last week. He bought it the day after I left and didn't tell me...made a big production of surprising me when I got back today...I was like a little kid at Christmas and it wasn't even my bike!
We are already planning some trips....I am thinking some of the NW guys will get to meet him on the ride to St Helens.
Never thought I would be so excited about someone else getting a new bike...but we spend alot of time together now so this will just make it that much more fun.

Cool story! I always get excited too when a friend or relative gets a new bike, especially when it's someone that I'll be able to ride with often. The VTXs are very nice bikes. I owned a 1300c before I bought my Nomad, and I had no complaints about it. It had a great motor and was very smooth like the Nomad is.
Here's wishing you many miles with your brother!

For me it does not matter what bike or who gets it...I am excited for them. I know the feeling they have and it is a great time for them....and maybe I can give it a test ride once they have had it for a bit. :)

That was a good story. I thik I get just as excited about a friend of mine getting a new bike as they do. My brother lives in Kentucky and bought a new HD a few months ago, He didn't ride for years so when he decided to pull the trigger I was really happy about it.

I can understand the excitment of having him to ride with too!
When I finally got my license to ride, my brother was thrilled! He lives close by us, but most of his good friends have moved an hour or so away from our area. So, I became my brother's riding buddy!!!

My brother also bought a bike again, a couple years after I got one again, both of us went a few years between bikes.I look forward to when he comes over and we go for rides together. He lives just a couple blocks away from me and we see each other more often now than we did years ago. I know how exciting it is when there's a new bike in the family.

Greg,
That's awesome. I assume this is the same brother I met at the motorcycle show in Seattle last December? Very cool.
My brother has an 1100 Honda Shadow, but riding with him is a chore. His (and his riding buddies) idea of a good ride is to go from one watering hole to the next and never cover more than 50 miles at any one time. He don't like riding with me 'cause I won't stop that often....let alone drink and ride..... :-/

That's great. The VTX1800 was my choice before I decided on the Nomad. I know I made the right choice. Anyway, he probably got a great deal, as they no longer make the 1800's. They don't have a cruiser between the VTX1300 and the Wing. Don't know what Honda's thinking. Couldn't believe they quit building the Valkyrie, that used to be my dream bike. My cousin, who's my age and always been my best friend, is getting a VTX1800 later this month, but after staring at my Nomad for about 30 minutes, he may change his mind.

That is a great story.
Until this year, one of my older brothers (I have only 7) is a life-long biker but lived in Houston, over 1000 miles away. He currently rides a VTX 1800-R. He took a new job recently and moved to Chicago, only 180 miles away. A few weeks back, he rode his VTX to my house for the first time and we got to swap rides. Aside from the power difference, there was nothing about his bike (stock, anyway) that I liked more than the Nomad, which is saying a lot since there's a lot to like about the VTX. But then he found the Nomad actually cramped for his 6'4" frame, even though the VTX wheelbase is only 1" longer. Interesting how sometimes the bike chooses us.
But the best part was spending time with my brother and our bikes. I'm looking forward to many rides together.

im still trying to get both my brothers to pull the trigger, one cant find the $$$ and the other his wife wont let him. although she didnt mind him doing a 600km round trip on the back of the bike with me today. it was great to spend some time on the road together, so i can see where you are coming from.

As my son always tells me...."four balls on two wheels is just wrong"... http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif...but as Jerry Seinfeld would say in his disclaimer..."Not that there's anything wrong with that..." http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif!

I know the feeling. My brother just got a 2002 Nomad, but there are 600 miles between us. Hoping to meet half way and do some rides in Catskills, NE PA. Can't wait for those nice days in NE.
