WOO HOO!!!! Hubby let me switch bikes yesterday while out riding. I got to lead on the Nomad, while he rode behind on my 900. Honest to goodness...I was riding along and LOVING it and every time I would look in the mirror, hubby would get further and further behind!!!! I asked him (we use the Scala Q2 headsets) why he was slowing down.....he let me know that he wasn't slowing down, I was steadily speeding up!!!!! When I looked down, I was up to 80 MPH and I SWEAR I couldn't tell I was going that fast!!!! I'm sure alot of this is probably because I am used to the louder 900 with more vibrations at higher speeds, but I am SO impressed with how smooth the Nomad rides! It's like riding in a nice car....you cruise along and suddenly realize you are going 90 MPH but it feels like 50 MPH http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif ;)

I can't wait to get my own Nomad!!!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I've recently moved from a vn900 to a nomad and I know exactly what your talking about. it rides so much smother and revs so little that if your on the road by yourself you often times don't realize how fast your going.

That's why I better stick with my 900 for a while...

CONGRATULATIONS on your Nomad purchase!!!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
I know you totally understand the difference then. The 900 sounds like it's struggling to stay at highway speeds and the Nomad glides along with no effort!

but I am SO impressed with how smooth the Nomad rides!

Yep.

I stepped up from a Suzuki C50 (800 cc) for the same reason. Just smoother and more comfortable at highway speeds.

You should have been warned, tho.

Once you get the taste, you'll continue the craving!

Yes it is very smooth I've had to catch my self more than once and slow down in multiple s turns.

My last bike was a Vulcan 800 Classic and the difference is huge. The Nomad is like an old Delta 88 with a 455. Not the fastest or the quickest, but a smooth lead sled that likes to cruise at a good clip comfortably.

I am also amazed at how easy I can lean into the turns. Since it is a heavier bike, I thought I would be afraid to lean into the turns. Somehow it felt more secure and stable than my 900 does!

I travel on I-75 for 40 miles each day. In the afternoon if you don't run between 80 & 90 your going to be run over. It amazes me that the Nomad feels the same at 90 as it does at 60.

I had a Yamaha Venture and felt the speed more than I do with my Nomad.

Hey Cherri,

Wait til you take the Nomad out in a real wind. This bike can handle 30 mph winds with ease as compared to some other bikes.

HEY!!!!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif
You may have solved an on-going argument between hubby and I!!! When we ride on windy days, he'll take us over bridges and such near the water where the winds get much worse! I'll be riding and feeling my 900 sway with the wind and complain to hubby that it's too windy to take a bridge that day. He'll tell me its not windy enough to move the bike around the road.....GRRRRRRR! Obviously he doesn't feel all that wind on the Nomad like I do!!! I assumed he felt it too, but just wanted his own way!!!! ::)

I'm now wearing very soft "sleeping" style foam ear plugs that cut only the wind noise and loud tire sounds but not exhaust noise.

Talk about needing a cruise control. Several times I was hitting 90 on the speedo without realizing it! Glass smooth......

When I first got my Nomad a buddy of mine and I rode to San Diego Zoo for the day and switched bikes for the trip back. He had a new Gold Wing. When we got home after cruising at speeds over 90 he told me the Nomad was the only bike he's ridden outside his Wing that felt he could cruise 100 all day.

Cheriann, I know what you mean. When I sold my loud, high mile 1500 and got a quiet 1600 with no vibrations I kept going 90mph. I'd slow down and then look again and I was right back up there.

+1 to that, waterman. The Nomad handles like a champ in winds. I wouldn't have suggested a ride during Hurricane Gustav, but 30 mph winds are no problem.

LeadHAND CheriAnn,
So if you keep whining and complaining he'll give in quicker and buy you the bike you NEED. I don't know how it's going in VA, but out here on the left coast the breaks in the weather are getting longer and longer!!!

LOL!!!! I guess you know my story...I started on an 800 Suzuki and took the 900 from hubby, so he bought himself a new Nomad. Now everybody expects me to take his Nomad next!!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

You know Rich, the weather is getting much better around here too, but we ride all year long! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif The snow and ice keep us off the roads, but otherwise, we try to ride as often as we can!

A quick funny story.....several months ago hubby and I bundled up and rode to Bruster's for ice cream in 29 degree weather!!!! A friend rode past and saw us in the parking lot by our bikes eating ice cream. She came back because she couldn't believe what she saw!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif She still tells that story to people. However, if you ride a Nomad, like hubby, you want to ride ALL THE TIME, no matter what the weather is!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

That makes me even more happy that I live in Florida!!

I don't ride if it's much below 70, and I still have about 3400 miles on my Nomad purchased January 10th.

CheriAnn, what's wrong with him keeping his Nomad and you buying the new one?

You can get some pretty good deals on '08 leftovers. I paid $10,700 for mine and was treated pretty well on the trade-in.

AND, you'd have the patriotic satisfaction of knowing that you're helping to stimulate the economy!

:-)

cheriann
04-01-2009, 04:02 AM
I'm watching the deals for my own Nomad, you can bet on that!
The only temptation with the one he rides, is that it already has everything on it I'd want to add!!!! He's already spent all the money on all that expensive bling!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

You might want to call dealers near you and see if they have any '08 leftovers.

The one I got wasn't advertised; I had to ask for it.

You must get colder weather up your way CheriAnn. Down here in Virginia Beach we were going out on the bikes to enjoy Christmas lights, but I know what you mean about going out on cold days. I just couldn't do that when I lived in Vermont because when the snow stays on the ground all winter there is salt and sand residue left on the roads as well as nasty frost heaves, you just can't reasonably get out any day you want on the bike in the winter.
