I've read the how to make the quick release bolts for the 1600 Nomad and it's not for me. So, does anyone know a supplier? These are the 4 button heads that mount the F&S windshield - I want the knob style that are on my 1500. If I've messed up my description and you know what I'm trying to ask for please help out.

Thanks, Jim

Actually I do know of a supplier and the thumbscrew you are looking for is M6x20mm I think. They come in bags of 10 thumbscrews for 11 bucks so you even have enough to make your saddle a quick release as well. Thats what I'm doing to my 1500 Nomad at least.

Cabby,

the windshield bolts are M8*25 and M8*20 button head. I ordered the bolts [replacement] from babbists on-line]. Very pricey with freight. I would have been better off at the local dealer. ACE has the right size [not in stainless or chrome and the heads too small - I didn't want to use the old washer technique on steel bolts...

Anyway, I'm still looking for a knob style metric without having to make them. Somewhere on this forum I saw the instructions to make the knob bolts but no where to buy.

Thanks,

Jim

I do believe you have to make them. They dont come pre-made as far as I know. You epoxy your favorite knobby onto the bolt and your done. Lowe's has good selection of SS fasterns and then you find your knobs(like on a weed eater, etc).

These instructions don't seem so complicated....

I made the Gadget thumbscrews. Not difficult, and relatively inexpensive.

ok...thanks for the link to make. This is one of the best tricks I've seen. Don't know why no one sells though.

thanks,

Jim

I found them at McMaster Carr. For a bag of 10 its 14.75 including shipping. M8x16, 20 or 25. They come in rossette or T handle knob. I ordered a bag yesturday. Call them at 330-342-6100 and the part number is 96016A726.

Cabby,

thanks for the post - this summer I'm going to want to go naked once and a while, this will make taking the windshield off alot easier. OK you guys, no funny cracks about the naked...

Has anyone tried the quick windshield dismount shown on gadget. I hate to cut the windshield brackets without some positive reviews.

...just carry a metric allen wrench of the proper size, unless you want them for looks.
