Anywhere I point the front wheel Nico!! I don't care. I might even cruise to Texas some day because I have old friends there and Plus the guys here as well. It would be a heck of a put but I think about it a lot.

generally 2 - 3 hour trips within md & va, but have logged a few states between maryland and florida. like the long trips - drive to work is frustrating, to much congestion, stop and go all the way, too hot in summer need i go on.

Most of my riding is in Mississippi. We have riden most of the back roads all over but I like the Natchez Trace the best. We rode it end to end a couple of years ago. Our trips are usually quick because of my work schedule. We did make it to the Bikes Blues & BBQ in Fayettville, Arkansas last year. They changed it later in October for 2007. I can't stand to ride and freeze so I may not make that one. I also like the central part of Tennessee. I haven't done the Smokies yet. That's my next long ride.

I mostly aimlessly wander, SE Wisconsin since that is where I live and spend most of my time riding there. There are some good roads all over SE Wisconsin and I find half the pleasure locating them by accident, never really with a destination in mind, just riding and appreciating what's around the next bend.

There are several websites that you can go to that will show routes, etc. that other riders have put up to the web. Google "best motorcycle roads" or some phrase like that and you'll come up with some sites that will possibly have something in your neck of the woods.

Pray for our troops who are giving their lives to protect our freedom to ride.

Regards and God Bless You,

Stewart

We generally ride in the Ozark Hills of Arkansas & Missouri. We will venture out to other states a couple times a year, http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif such as the Smokie Mtns. of TN., NC., SC., VA., WVA., & KY. We've wrestled the Dragon about 12 times. Talk about crooked roads there's plenty of those in south west WVA., almost made us dizzy. Another good road to ride is US 421 between Mountain City TN. & Bristol Tn. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif Last year we made a 3700 mile road trip out west to AZ's Grand Canyon then back through Colorado Rockies. My wife and I really enjoy just loading up and riding to where ever the road takes us. On any given Saturday we will ride in the neighborhood of 280 - 570 mile during the Summer months. Ya'll ride safe........

Dooley, sounds like you must be riding up in the Hardy and Mammoth Spring area. I sold my summer digs in Cherokee Village last fall and now live on the TX/MEX border, full time. Great roads up there in AR, especially Hwy 9 from Melborne over to the White River. I counted 117 twisties in a 20 mile space.... and not a straightway on the entire route.

Ride safe!!

Wayne, Yeah We go thru Hardy and Mamoth often. We ride anywhere from Hardy to Eureka, Hot springs,( AR 7 between Harrison & Hot Sprg is a great ride) Arkedelphia, Russellville, Mt. Nebo (now thats a wild ride up Nebo) over Petit Jean Mtn., Branson, Mo., Jasper, Norfork, Mountain view. In other words all over cental to western AR. and southern Mo. There are some great twisting highways around that area, but we still like leaving the main trail and venturing to unknowns from time to time. I just get my map's out and map out a ride and away we go. I'll bet you rode several of those area's during your summer visits. Have a great day.....

In reading your posts, I noticed many very nice riding roads being mentioned. Some of them I've ridden on. I think I've ridden every road in Texas, Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Definately familiar with 9 and 23 in Arkansas. Spent many a night at Queen Wilhelmina. I've ridden just about every road in Colorado, although there are still a few roads left I've got to ride. Ridden roads in Southern Missouri all the way east to Deal's gap near Knoxville, TN. That's about as far east as I've gotten, but I do plan on getting to WVirginia some day. I've ridden as far north as Montana....Yellowstone was a trip I'll never forget.

I was in Tyler State Park last summer on vacation. As memory serves there were some nice roads in the park with changes in direction/elevation, but the low park speed limit and traffic would lessen their enjoyability factor. Anyone BTDT??

I live about 5 miles west of Tyler State Park. Been going there since I was a kid. You're right tho, low park speed doesn't allow it to be much fun on a bike.

Trip (aka Moderator), I'll bet Yellowstone was an unforgetable memory. My wife and I will hopefully venture west to Yellowstone someday http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif (before really old age sets up on us). We have discussed Riding to thru Royal Gorge, up to Eisenhower Tunnel, thru Rocky Mtn. National Park, over Rabbit ear pass (my brother is a truck driver and I've heard him talk of going over Rabbit Ear in the late 60's and early 70's) through Steamboat Sprgs., up to Yellowstone, and maybe up in to MT. to Going to the Sun Road, then back thru the Black Hills in SD. on the way back to Arkansas. I think that would be a heck of a road trip. Not many from this area that I know of will ride a trip like that, they think my wife and I are a little off our nut for riding the way we do but, I say what the hell if we both enjoy it then go for it. Right, Right.

You're right Jim,
Don't let anyone hold you back from a good trip. I've been just about everywhere in Colorado on my bike...Royal Gorge, Eisenhower Tunnel, Ouray, Ridgeway, All the passes and then some. But none of them compared to Yellowstone. When I took that trip, I was riding a Honda Magna, but feel free to read my trip report at:

I live in NC in the Triad area, about 1 to 1.5 hours from the Blue Ridge Parkway.... There are a million roads leading to it and through the foothills but when I go for a extended or overnight ride I always seem to end up on the parkway for a little while. Have done to entire Pkwy from North to South and then gone about 1/2 way up on Skyline Drive, Northern Virginia's version of the Parkway. Otherwise, even if I have 30 minutes I will find a road to point down and take off. Love to get to the higher altitudes especially on days like today when its 102 here with 95% humidity.....aint I glad I have a water cooled engine!!!

I'll ride anywhere I can, when I can. Went to Table Rock Lake and rode Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas August before last; Eastern Tennessee/Western N. Carolina last August; didn't get to do the Dragon, but several of the group did it twice, and I found a neat area between Cherokee Lake and Norris(?) Dam we started calling the Salamander. I ride the Texas Hill Country as often as I can, as I was raised there and family still lives there.

Next Sunday I'm off to Kentucky Lake outside of Paducah by way of Western and Northern Arkansas, and there's getting to be a good possibility I might make the VROC Reunion in Eureka Springs in September. If I do, I'll leave there for Florida to visit some friends for a couple days, then back to Texas. That last will be roughly 1800 miles, not counting the local riding.

And Nico, that's on a itty bitty li'l ol' 750, altho I'm hoping to have the 1500 up and running for the ES/Florida run. :) (That's just a hint to get on yore pony and ride, cowboy, ride! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif)

Jim

(Next year my brother ['07 1600 Nomad] and I are going to OTIVROC in Coos Bay, OR--woohoo! Already got room reserved!)

08-13-2007, 07:14 AM
Hey dharris.......could you post some of the routes you were telling dip about in WVa? I was born there and have always gone back to visit family but never on a bike. A couple of the guys in my group and I talked of going up there the first weekend of October to ride since Concrete Canyon in NYC was cancelled but we have now opted for the mtns. of NC. We change our plans if we have some good routes to ride. Summersville is where we initially looked at as our base camp.

Sawa goodly number of biker bretheren (and sisteren too) in Gettysburg yesterday. SUre would have been nicer to be in the saddle than behind the wheel. Best I could do was hang my head out the window like a dog http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

I was impressed by the enormity of the battlefield. 170,000+ troops spread over a 5-mile front . . .

I know the feeling when you wish you were on a bike instead of in the cage. Thanks to today's predicted high of 105 I decided a/c might be the best choice...until I got into the cage and felt really confined.

I've heard the battlefield is incredible. One day I plan to go there.
