I have a 2008 Nomad with 1100 miles on it. Just noticed that the exhaust pipes going into the catalytic converter are turning blue. This is just an inch or two before entering the converter. Is this normal? Is that the purpose of the chrome cover pipe, to keep the appearance of chrome pipes because the actual pipes turn blue? Will Simichrome paste remove the blue? ???

I think they all turn blue there, no use in doing anything with it as one of those things that happens with the pipes.

Like everyone said, it's normal. Chrome blues when you heat it up. That's why we have chrome heat shields, to keep the scoot looking purdy. Semichrome will have some effect, but not enough to be worth the effort (just my opinion).

Back int he "good old days," bikes didn'thave heat shields and they just turned blue. Use to fight it like crazy. Best method of prevention was to run the carb rich to keep everything cool. With the smog requirements, it just can't be done these days.

Although Semichrome is a good product that I use sometimes at work, don't waste your time and effort tryng to keep the blue away. The pipes will turn blue again shortly after you think you have them looking good.

My '07 pipes blued in the same places you speak of right away. I'm seriously thinking of installing a TFI even though my only mod is debaffeling. I've noticed some low end pinging even with the cool weather running 93 octane fuel.
