I may ahve posted this question here before as I have been trying to get a clear answer from several forums. The previous owner lowered my '02 Nomad he said 4 inches. I find that hard to believe since the stock Nomad only has 5.25 inches of ground clearance. That being said, I have the stock shocks and fork springs from the PO. I know the shocks will be no problem. Just lift and replace. The '02 Nomad has the cartridge forks. Is it possible to change just the spacers out in the fork springs without major disassembly??? I'm thinking I can just replace the spacer with on maybe 3 or so inches longer than what is in there now. The springs he used to lower the bike are Progressive springs, so I would like to leave them in place. Any thought on what to do or definitely not to do would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, this was your first post on KawaNOW. Welcome to the Nomad Nation from the Grand Canyon State!

Sorry, I am no front fork spring expert. I'm sure someone will wander in that can offer advice.

Robby,
I wish that I had an answer for you two, but am basically a man with 10 thumbs. Maybe Radco or MacMac or Spirello or one of a dozen other guys might have the right answer to your question. That said, welcome to the forum and I do hope that you get an answer soon.

1. Welcome to the forum
2. I would buy a service manual to see if that will answer your question - I have mine on order so if I get it in a reasonable amount of time I don't mind looking for you.
3. Go back to the previous owner and kick him in the junk! What was he thinking! Oh and I agree there is no way he lowered the bike 4". That being said he obviously has no idea what he was doing and I would pull the forks apart anyway just to make sure everything was correct.

Again, welcom.

First I would like to welcome you to our family now as for as the front forks go there are a lot of people on here that can help you better than I can and I am sure if you give them a little time they will come on with your answer in the meantime if I get a chance I will check my service manual and see what I can find out. That said if your shocks are progressive and you are going to replace them I might be interested in buying them just PM me and let me know. Jim http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

Thanks for the great welcome guys. I'm borrowing a bike lift from my neighbor next week, so I'm going to dig into the forks and see what I have. If I read Gadgets page correctly, changing the spacer should do the trick. It would probably help to know what size spacer to go back with. I'm thinking this may not be a good time for trial and error

How about asking the previous owner what he did and ask him how to undo it?

Try asking your question in the garage section, where all the gear heads hang out...-
