I'm looking to get the 08 nomad. I went in today, they said an out the door price of 14,9 and change, best they could do.. I told them about the member here who posted the link to the tenn store for 9,899. now they are back pedeling a bit.. I hate places that try to rake ya if they can.. so still working on that.. I told them to get as close to the 9,9 number as they can. so we will see what happens. So, on to accessories. I am going to get V & H baggers. best price I found 455 out the door, they wanted 494.. that's acceptible. they want 130 to install. They said to get a dynojet powercommander III. their price is 340. i found it for 280 out the door. however they want 175 to install it. Now on their website, it sounds like if you have a laptop you can download the maps your self, has anyone done this? I asked about changing the intake, figure if I am doing it, I might as well get it all done now. I was thinking of the hyper charger basically because of looks, I know nothing of them YET... couple questions. Does one go on both sides? if not, what happens to other side? They recommended just a K & N air filter at a cost of 70 bucks.. plus 45 to install... WHAT.. maybe I'm wrong, but on my vn750 it was just a swap out, so 45 for just a air filter change seems crazy. Then I was thinking on a hitch, they didn't know what brand it was, but it was going to cost 460 plus 130 to install.. Then they had no idea how to do an aftermarket trunk without doing research that would take a week.. hmm.. so I guess my questions.. are these components good products to get. I think I am pretty set on the pipes.. it's the other stuff. I know nothing of the intakes.. hyperchargers to me just looked neat! but any valuable info would be great.. thanks for the help...

The price seems awfully high. I bought my 07 brand new for 12k. You could probably buy a new one on ebay(leftover at dealer) for 11k - 12k, but you would have to pay for shipping. My V & H baggers were really easy to install myself. My pc111 was also fairly easy. You have to raise the tank up about 3 inches without taking it off and blocking it up with soft material, you can unplug the factory setup and plug in the pc111 from the front left side. I ordered mine thru Cruiser Customizing.com and they programed the map for me free before they shipped it. The K & N filter wont do much more than the stock air cleaner since the stock air openings are small. Going to an air kit such as the Cadman or Thunder, or Barons has bigger air openings wich allows more air flow. Good luck

Sounds like the dealer was quoting you a price on a 2009 Nomad not an 2008

14.9 does sound like a lot for an '08. Where are you located? I got my 2007 in March, 2008 for 10.8K.

There was a couple 08 close to me and they were at 11,800 out the door. I think you could get one for 11,000 or under??

There is a few on ebay, don't know how close they are to ya?

Borto1990,
$14,900 for a leftover 08 thats out of line! Tell that stealer think sales and get real.
I bought my 07 in April of 07 for $11,635 out the door with plates.
$45 to install a K&N? what's he smokin? The filter cost $60. The Power commander does take some doin so I have no response to that other than I installed the Cobra for $170, its less complicated than the PC III but does the trick for me. You may be able to do a little better on the pipes if you search around. I forgot what I paid for mine I know it wasn't over $420 with shipping. If you have metric wrenches a little patience and a friend to just stand by you, I think you could handle it. All the install knowledge is on this site ,just ask they're a great bunch. I would bring the bike home first, then, start hookin it up. just my $.02.

I have the K&N on my bike, and did not notice any performance improvement.

For those who what more air flow, do what I did. Remove the gasket from the base of the left air cleaner cover & reinstall the cover. This will leave a 1/4" gap between the dog dish & the backing plate. Now your engine will be sucking cool filtered air & still have the stock appearance w/o spending any $$$...-Rich

Do a search on Cycle Trader & I found 2007's starting at $8,999 & 2008's starting at 11,000. This dealer MUST be quoting the price on the 2009 Voyager, not a 2008 Nomad..

What area do you live in?

I'd check sites like Cycle trader and any others you could find, and try to get your stealer to match one. If they refuse to match or at least come close enough to offset a plane ticket, you can break it in on your way home from the lower priced source. Here's a Black 08 in North Carolina for under $10K http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2008-KAWASAKI-Vulcan-1600-Nomad-94050891

When I bought Lucille in July 2007 I was looking at a low-mileage '07 two states away, but my dear wife said she would prefer I bought a NEW '07 from a local dealer. Next time I may try harder to persuade her ;).

Whichever route you choose, welcome to the Nomadness, and enjoy the new ride.

yea, I am not fond of this dealer at all.. he is the closest to me here in grand rapids mi though. so I go to them to look stuff up.. I just hate the game.. give me your best deal.. don't make me shop around then you try to match it.. drives me nuts.. I've seen them within a couple hours for 10.5. the 9,899 posted above is the same one I saw before. I used that for an example.. the bike on showroom floor is black and red, he said it's a bit more.. I told him 3,500 more????? so we will see what happens.. my house sale closes on feb 3rd.. so once money is in hand.. this boy is ready for a road trip and trailer it home if I have to. Thanks for the help everyone!

I bought my 07 new last Feb for $9650 OTD plus tax., I did have to drive to Akron Ohio area to get it, but it wasn't all that bad. It all seems a little high to me, and it sounds like they are giving you the typical dealer BS. Most of the add in you're looking at are simple installs.

New Orleans Power Sports has 4 2007 Vulcan 2000's ranging from $11,449 to $11,749. That's pretty cheap for the big ones. No holdover Nomads though.

Checking out the last Nomad on the showroom floor at a dealer in Houston off of I-10 west about 3 days ago. They've already added the VH baggers, road pegs, light bar, Kury grips, throttle boss, throttle lock, and a few other chrome goodies. Wanted 13,750.00.

I took the guys card, but told him even with the extras, he was too high. He didn't seem to care. I'm sure he knew that someone not knowledgeable would see the bling and buy it. It does pay to look and know what you're looking at.

In searching Cycle Trader online I noticed that all three Houston area dealers ads said "call for price". That always seems to translate out to be "higher than a cat's back"

I would print out the best deals you can find on the internet for the bike and all the bling...then take it in and hammer away. Just make sure you are prepared to leave the premises if they don't offer a fair deal given these bad economic times.

You might also ask them if they prefer cash or credit before you go....some dealers may not think credit is as profitable as it once was...then go to your local credit union and arrange for financing if needed, just like cash to the dealer.

It is a buyer's market. I would find a backup dealer just in case.

Seems pretty reasonable for the V&H pipes, but save yourself the $130 and do it yourself if you can. It's not difficult.

$280 for the Powercommander, but the TFI sells for $200 and there's plenty of knowledge for installing one right here. $175 for installation better include a dyno run or two. It's not worth if if you're not going to do the intake. My opinion: Wait on the fuel computer. Save at least $375.

The air filter is a joke, all the way around. I'm not a fan of K&N filters because I've seen how much crap they let into the motor to get that "Free-er flow". No thanks. $45 to install? I'd have laughed all the way out the door and never returned. Seriously, $45 to turn ONE screw??

For the kind of coin they want for the bike, they can waive all installation charges as far as I'm concerned.

Can't help you with intakes. If I go that route, it'll likely be the Cadmann setup that others here on the board use. Better, cleaner airflow at 1/3 the cost. I'll also install and tune my own TFI unit. Neither job is at all difficult, and I'll keep those installation fees in my wallet.

Good luck on your purchase, but honestly, if I were you I'd do two things:

1. Find another dealer. These guys are sh*t, you basically said that yourself. If you don't like them, why give them your hard earned money?

2. Wait on most of those accessories, or order them online and do the projects yourself. You'll learn a ton about your new bike and save a LOT of money. That translates into more riding, and more accessories!

Hope that doesn't offend - it's not meant that way. I just can't see throwing good money away when it's really not necessary.

A good friend and riding compadre last year went bike shopping. He wasn't in a hurry, knew what he wanted in terms of set up and how he intended to use the bike. He shopped all sources, got a feel for pricing and especially shopped on line, and with individuals.

Finally, he found what he was lookin for offered by an individual in Indianna. He stuck up a dialouge, got pics and info, and they settled on a price that was really good. Ultimately, even after driving up to retrieve the bike, his overall savings compared to local market was at least 3000.00. Well worth the effort for him.

The bike is a beautiful, late model, low milage and Fully Loaded, well laid out HD ultra classic with lots of little touches like steel braided cables. When I am in the market for another bike, I wouldn't hesitate to try his method. It might not work, but could be worth the effort. Oh, and he got the bonus of a great ride home. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I got my 08 out the door in August 08 for $11K included installation of V&H baggers and PCIII. Probbably could have waited a couple more months and got a little better deal but summer was going and I had sold my 98 Vulcan 1500 Classic a couple weeks before so was going through withdrawal symptoms....... 14K is way out of line...
