Before I order them, I was wondering if there's anything I need to be aware of in the install that those who have them could import to me?

Thanks a bunch,
Daryl

Just make sure you order the ones for your 1600. They come with 2 sets of mounting holes and all hardware for installation.
I just installed them on my 07. If they were any lower they would have hit the speedo bezel. I would have had to use the rear hole instead of the center hole. That would have givin me less pull back.
The install is real easy. Just be sure to cover your tank and front fender with a thick towel. You will drop something and scratch the paint if you don't.
Order now from scootworks. The chrome are out of stock but they will upgrade you to chrome with flames for the same price http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Mine went on very easily. Fit fine with the stock cables on my 2007. Had to clip a couple of cable ties though.

Get the chrome if you can. I got polished aluminum and regret it. Always look a little "hazy" to me. But they are very comfortable.

I have the chrome ones as well and am very happy with them. No real problems mounting them. I initially mounted them on the offset holes as the instructions recommended. When I mounted the fairing I needed a little more clearance so I moved them back to the center hole. The brake line is a little snug, but I think it will be ok. They sure make for a more comfortable riding position and look great.

Mine went on with no problem. I thought I was going to have cable problems but I didn't. Just make sure you protect the tank from the handle bars when you loosen them.

I had some of the Phatt II risers on my 900 Classic LT....I loved them.
I went thru two sets of chrome ones in less than a year...The chrome would blister and/or bubble on the front of one or both of them.
Scootworks was good about replacing them but the third set I went with the polished aluminum and was very satisfied. They stayed polished and looked quite nice up against the brushed aluminum tripple tree.
I think at the time they were having problem with their chromer for a while and has since been corrected.
However they are great risers.
On my current Nomad....I am using 3 1/2 inch riser extensions that I got from Chucksters and they put my grips perfectly where I want them and I think that pullback risers would probably bring the grips back too close.
The folks at Scootworks are good people though.

Just installed the Phat II risers on my 08 Nomad. Was no problem, other than I needed to buy a set of metric deep well sockets to get the original nuts loose. (Not that I was complaining).

And as the wife was helping she understood the need to get the set, so no problem. It does help if you have some one else to help with positioning the handle bars.

I had to use the forward holes in order to clear the bezel.

No problems with cables or brake lines.

So far I really like them. I ride alot more comfortably, and seem to have a little better control of the bike, especially in slow speed situations. (My arms are too damn short is part of the problem).

Rich: I believe there is a difference between the 1600 and 1500 risers. You can call Scoot works and ask.

They are really helpful.

These were my first mod. I mounted mine using the rear holes which gave plenty of clearance for the speedometer housing. No problem with the cables.

I have them on my 06 and really like them. I chose the chrome ones because they are easier to shine and the aluminum ones would be hard to polish while on the bike. I work with a lot of aluminum and it doesn't keep the shine long. A lot of custom bikes have polished aluminum wheels and they require a lot of polishing.

I second the above. I just put mine on last week. I also got the free upgrade from plane chrome to flames.
I bought a set of hex bit sockets to tighten the bolts under the triple tree; made it much easier.

It's an easy install if you don't mind removing parts. I ended up removing the windshield and brackets, including the lowers, also the headlight bucket and the chrome behind it.

I used this opportunity to polish everything real good and paint the inside of some of the sheet metal parts that were getting surface rust.

If you take the headlight off, use the opportunity to upgrade the H4 bulb too. :)

So in summary, by installing the risers;
I got a more tools (always a good thing),
did some preventive maintenance painting,
did some thorough polishing,
and upgraded my headlight to the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra.

These risers were my first modification as I was stretching all the time and was uncomfortable. It took about 15 minutes and I love mine. If I can put them on, you can....

They are great for more comfort as everyone has said. I too have an '08. I used the offset holes and moved my brake housing about an inch up the bar...just enough to get the slack out of the little brake wire under the housing. That will help give you more room for your brake hose....but you should have no problems!

I put a set on my 04 1500 last year. They work great but the little chrome bolt caps have dulled. I am not sure if they sell replacement caps or not.

A Follow on question....Did ya'll use existing handlebars or buy a new/different set?

I have a 2008 and ordered mine around the end of November and I got the same e-mail about not having the chrome would I like to have the flames at no additional charge, I replied yes and got them about a week later. I ordered the ones for 1600, didnt pay attention to any other models so not sure if they will fit 1500 too or not.
Not to sure I care for the flames... but they look good and added the extra length I was looking for. I followed the instructions that came with them for using the offset hole to mount and had no problem with fit or hoses. Took about 30 minutes to do.
And you definatley want to do the towel on your tank during the process...

I just used the OEM bars that came on the bike.

I used the stock bars also.
If you are going to change bars you don't need the risers. Just buy the bars that give you the same hight and pull back you want.
I think the risers are model specific. 1600 for 1600, 1500 for 1500.
I also used the offset holes for more pull back. Cables fit but had to get rid of the cable ties that are stock.

How many people have used the original hole instead of the offset one and did it cause you any problems? I need as much pull back as I can get and if I can use the regular cables and the original hole instead of the offset that is what I want to do. Who has used the original hole and are you happy with it?

Top Cat,
You mentioned using the offset holes for "more pullback". I thoght the original holes gave you the more pullback. Am I mistaken?

If I remember correctly, and you have to understand this thread was started last January http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif There are two sets of holes in the bottom of the risers. One set is in the center of the bottom and one set is farther forward in the bottom.
OK wait, I'm going to the garage to check this out. After looking at Netnorske's photo and he said he used the offset holes I need to go look as his risers are definatly forward more than mine.
I'm back. I didn't take one off but from looking it seems I used the center hole. I know I wanted the most pullback so now I have to assume the other hole is behind the center hole as you sit on the bike.

TC - Sorry about the late reply but work seems to dominate lately. You have indicated you used the center holes for the most pullback. That is what I am interested in. Thanks for you input. Has anyone else out there used the center holes and how did it work out for you? Any cable issues? Any information is much appreciated. Thanks.
