Worse than cabin fever. Living 20 miles east of Spokane, WA we are having the most snow on record. Over 60 inches on the ground. All I can do is unplug the battery maintainer once a week, start her up and run her till she's good and warm and dream about the open road. If you are in the same condition, what are you doing to cope?

Bourbon... specifically... Maker's Mark; Snowmobiling when possible; Playing drums in the basement; Snow-skiing; and lastly taking a trip somewhere south to "rent-n-ride" -- otherwise insanity will set in before next spring!! ;)

Nomadwest...you must be from Idaho? Cour D Alene or Rathdrum?

You going to join us in Custer or at least Missoula?

Check in at the NW forum once in awhile....we are all sharing your pain right now.

well, I've reread almost every post in the forum several times and then I'll go back and read them again, that seems to help the shakes----but the sleepless nights, there, I just can figure out what to do.

Ahhh, good old fashioned PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome). Don't worry, you aren't the only one. To darn cold here to ride. Currently 24 with a wind chill of 11.

I think I got a sunburn today. Near 450mi roundtrip. I'm gonna have to invest in a video camera or you'll have to get a plane ticket. Potluck on the plane ticket. Just don't know exactly when the weather will be good. With a video you can move the PC to the garage and sit on the bike while you watch.

Skeeter; that's just not very nice of "you all" from "down south" to "rub it in".

This is a serious situation for us "northerners"! You know... deep depression sets-in with the winter's PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome).

By the way... where do you live and when can about 30 or 40 of us come down?!!! ;)

I really feel for you guys that have to park em all winter...it bugs me to have to park mine part time for a week or two when it really gets cold, like below 40....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Been spending a lot of time reading posts on the forum lately to try and quell the urge to ride. I watched "Wild Hogs" tonight, and that certainly didn't help matters any! We have the most snow in about ten winters here in ND. As I'm typing this, my digital thermometer shows -22 degrees. We have about three feet of snow on the ground. My snowblower keeps the Nomad company in the garage.

What do I do to cope ???
When I'm not shoveling and blowing snow I stay inside and check out this forum, read bike mags and plan trips for this summer.
I did go out in the unheated garage and put my Phat2 risers on the other day http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif That gave me a little Nomad fix ;)

Nomadwest:

Having grown up in central North Dakota, I can understand your frusteration with the unusual amounts of snowfall. My remedy for this was to pack up the wife and move to Arizona. Truth be known, it was part of a job transfer.

It was not until moving to Arizona that I recently purchased a Nomad. I really feel fortunate to live in an area where you can ride 12 months out of the year. Of course, you may die of heat stroke in August, but you can ride!! Hang in there!

Hey prairiecruiser:
Are you planning on the Custer rally? I spent a few years living in Fargo- grew up south of Minot. I hope to get to Custer- would be nice to see somebody from ND!

I am planning a coupla days over near where I live in May. Beautiful scenery, and yes I just posted a video of part of one of the routes so that you can sit on your bikes in the garage and make Vroom Vroom noises......

It is hit and miss along the Colo Front Range foothills. I've never winterized a bike or gone more than about three weeks at a time without riding, although two years ago was an exception to the length of that break. Being close to the SW deserts the warm and dry air is not far away so it can dry out fast at the elevations where most of us live. Trying to hold back and not get a too early of a jump on the remaining icy spots or the excess gravel is the main concern. Of course being will to able/willing to ride down into the 20s helps a lot too after the roads are clear.

N'adwest,
Hang in there...we know that it is tough, but remember, this too shall pass.
Be sure to check out the Northwest boards and introduce yourself a little more, and try to sneak out and at least start her up and hear her purr every once in a while. :)
