Well i am going to do it. Friday i pick up a 2009 Street Glide. Now don't fret, I am just going to be renting one for 3 days while visiting my folks in Hilton Head, SC. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to ride in 70 degree weather. I will let you know what I think. ;)

Dave,
Going Harley is like going Gay....it's all good until one of your friend's sees you doing it.... http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif.
Just kidding my friend... ;)....enjoy the ride, the weather and the family...looking forward to a report on how it compared (good points and bad) to the Nomad. Merry Christmas from the great white Pacific NW.... :)!

I thought you were "born Harley" that you couldn't choose that as an option, or so I have been told.

Don't worry...he'll ride it and realize how good he's got it, but he'll make a few tweaks to the old girl and, like some others around here, call her a Street N'ad or No Glide or whatever name they called it.

Streetglides are pretty sweet, if the rattle don't do ya in...
I thought about one but I'm glad I didn't buy it, all I need is a fairing for my Nad!

The Street Glide is a super nice bike. I think, it just being in the 70s, you'll probably enjoy it a lot. If the temps were up into the 90s though, you'd be ready to park it. Enjoy the ride and the visit with the family.

I'll be interested in hearing what you think of the ride. I have some freinds that have Street Glides, they look small to me next to the Nomad.

Hi, I rode a buddies Harley in the U.K once. That finally convinced me I would never own one.
Always wanted to try one though. I think it was a 03 dyna glide or something like that. There wasnt one thing that I liked about it.

I would have to say that 70 degree riding for christmas would be gift enough. Who cares what the brand is. I would ride a moped right now if I could get 70 degree weather.

I agree with Meat; I have two friends with Street Glides. I think we have more room on our Nomads.
I sat on a 09 Electre Glide Classic in the dealer. Supposed to be a re-designed frame but I will wait for the magazines to bless it.
I still feel I have more room on the Nomad.
Please, post a report how you liked the Glide.

Any bike period, from a scooter to a trike gets you into the "Family". Enjoy your ride and be safe. I was raised around Harleys and do like them, but they just can't begin to compare to the "Bang-for-the-Buck" or the "Caliber" of bike that we all have and love!!! I might buy a Harley some day as a single seat poker run/ Noise maker second bike. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif ??? Even on an ULTRA GLIDE CLASSIC they just can't hold a candle to the Nad!!! I felt very cramped even on Harley's flagship dresser. Above all else you just can't beat the NOMAD!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
I didn't know Harly (sp)built motorcycles http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif
They don't. They sell an image and a lifestyle (religion) to those who can't figure life out on thier own. And are fooled to think that they are buying American. But, in fact, all the H/D crap/advertising (Clothes, leathers, Barbies, salt shakers, etc. ) they buy is imported. I have yet to meet someone (non-publication) who did a comparison of all brands of motorcycles and chose H/D because it was the best motorcycle. I am sure there is one out there.
Sorry for the small rant. I have a good friend that has fallen into the H/D trap, and took his family with him. Now I have to deal with the " When ya gonna step up and buy a Harley?" All I say is " I have better things to spend my money on" Let him figure it out! ;)

Only if I could take an extension cord or an air hose. Their bound to hang up on something on the way down.

My Harley friend had a FatBoy when I got my Nomad. I took it by his place and his wife said "Its so big!" The next time we went on a ride, he had a StreetGlide. He claimed he "always wanted a bagger". Sure, I would really believe that. I wonder why his wife was annoyed with me for a couple weeks! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I have some friends that have street glides, when I first got my Nomad and brought it up to the bar and parked it, everyone was commenting on how BIG it was. Sitting next to the Street Glides it does look longer and bigger. As a side note, none of them have made any negative comments other than they couldnt afford the gas with the mileage I get.... around 36-39 while they get between 44-48, which is the only thing I envy about their HD's.

Your friends can't afford the gas mileage for a Nomad; but they can afford a Harley? ???
No offense but that doesn't make sense.
If they take the difference between the prices of the two bikes; they can pay for the gas in a Nomad for years -- likely long enough to wear it out!! Thus a zero-sum game.
I do see your point though. ;)

Well, I picked up the StreetGlide a week ago and got to ride over 300 miles in 3 days. Here are a list of my pros and cons of the bike.
Pro:
6 speed transmission
Cruise Control
Radio with integrated controls
6 gallon tank
gas mileage
The accurate fuel gauge with mileage left calculation
Sound of pipes
keyless riding with security system
Power/Acceleration was very good
Cons:
Engine noise: Man I heard our bikes have a loud engine, but the HD was obnoxious.
Size: Nomad is much roomier, especially for someone riding bitch
Heal Shifter: It was so high I had to lift my boot up off the boards to use it so I didn't use it
Loud, Hard Shifting: Loud clunking gear shift and it was a bit stiff
Seating postion cramped
Bags
Overall I liked the SG, and really loved the 6 speed and cruise. That said I would never pay the premium for it over my Nad. I love my Nad and it is a superior bike to the SG. Our bikes are smoother bike and is way more comfortable. Yes, it got better gas mileage, but not enough to ever factor my decision. My wife likes the Nomad better as well.
When riding solo it was a nimble, powerful bike with enough room, but the Nad while being bigger has plenty of power and is better built for me. I am glad I did it, it was fun to ride and experience it. I also wanted to see if I liked fairings at all, and they are nice though I doubt I will put one on my Nad. Oh and the bags on the Nad are far superior. I love our bags and I think they are much better than the HD bags. This only reaffirms that I am very happy with my Nad.
Oh and BD only wishes I was gay. He wants me.
Looking at your list of pros, I'd say the voyager has it covered! Now, if they get the plastics under control, and hang on to everything else they've got going we might just have us a bike. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif
At 108 ft/lbs and if the ergos stay the same as what I (we-she loved her perch too) sat on at the show, well, then, we definately have us a BIKE!
Nice report. We apreciate your ??? sacrifice ;) all in the name of research. Hey, these little stories do help with the decisions we sometimes have to make.

Thanks for the report! I was wondering when you were gonna get around to that. It sounds kind of like I expected...and yes, if Ma Kaw gets her sh*t together on the Voyager....it might prove to give the HD SG a good run <s>for the money</s>. Check that...we already know where the smart money goes.... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

If I had a choice I would have rented a Nomad, but alas you can only really find rentals for HD with any ease.
