OK, so I found 1/2" marble. Now... where does it go and what does this "mod" do??? Is it just to minimize or reduce the backfiring?
Thanks!

only if you have added new exhausts and are having a problem with backfiring

You shouldn't hear the backfiring with stock pipes. But if you marble the reed valves, you won't hear the clicking noise they make when working. I removed mine completely and put coasters on. I swear I pulled a mile of plumbing out.

true, I have V&H and so they do pop, marble didnt help much and mpg decreased so i pulled her out and enjoy the pop.
I decided since the pop didn't mean the engine was running poorly, I would just enjoy the pop. No marbling.

BD,
I have the V&H Baggers, yes. But I kind of like the backfiring! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif think I'll hold onto my marbles a bit longer. (oh, I'm gonna pay for THAT one!)...
I also have the PCIII on board that's awaiting the CaddmannQ dual air intake mod... AFTER Christma$ though.

Where did you lose your marbles ds? Be careful not to pick them up in front of BD....
Seriously though. How much did you research your future air intake mod? Do you think it's the best?

Here's the link to the Caddman mod. It's pretty inexpensive compared to many big air kits. I did kind of a modified Caddman. I left the right side airbox stock and just put the 9"x2" filter on the left side. I used a 1/2" copper pipe end cap in the hose instead of a marble. I don't have any backfiring.

I'm not very mechanical, what are coasters and what do they do.
If it is something you only need if you have after market pipes then never mind. I like my Blowndodgerized stockers :)

<marquee>It goes in SWB's butt to minimize obnoxious backfiring he's know to do!</marquee>

Socwbiker,
Thanks for the warning re: BD. Duely noted... leave the soap if you drop it; got it!
As far as the air intakes, I considered just a K&N filter element in the stock intake, a Thunder Manufacturing intake kit, and Caddmann's. I am a believer in opening up the air flow on motors since they're essentially air pumps anyways, and after comparing the 3 options, Caddmann's modification seemed to win in all categories: 1. air flow; 2. aesthetics; and 3. cost/bang-for-the-buck. I also acknowledge Caddmann as a very good source, knowledgeable (not whimsical) about these things based on previous forum experience chatting with him about mod's, what he's done, how, and why.
I also really like the round, symmetrical look of both intakes on the stock bike, so I am happy to retain that look as closely as his mod does. I couldn't decide on one "look" out of all the Thunder styles that I'd like as much and/or would like as much in a year or two.
My only reservation about his mod is my own lack of mechanical aptitude. I have none, basically! He says it's easy, but I'm a complete moron with this kind of stuff and would love someone's help (nearby) that is basically willing/able to do it for me while I fetch wrenches and materials and attempt to gain an incling of an understanding what the hell is going on!

Thanks, Zinger. I've been there, seen and read that. I've also asked Caddmann to basically install it for me since I have NO aptitude for that stuff whatsoever, admittedly. Somehow, some way, I'll screw it up and it'll end up costing me as much as if I had just bought a Thunder kit instead! Doh!!! :-/
So, anyone (nearby +/-) out there want to do the CaddmannQ dual air mod to my Nad for me? I'm a great mechanic's assistant... and the food/drink's on me.... Anyone? Anyone? Buehler???

You don't need to install coasters even if you have after market pipes. My reed valves were making annoying clicking noises on deacceleration so I removed them and all of the hoses. If you look at the front of your front cylinder and at the back of your rear cylindar you will see a small box about 2" x 2" x 3" this is the reed valve. You will see attached to the top of each reed valve a black hose that goes up under the tank to round plastic valve which then has a black hose that goes to the 2 o'clock position of the right bell. I took all of this off and replaced the two boxes, ie reed valves, with coasters. They are small thin pieces of metal that cover the hole in the cylinder left when you remove the reed valves. My result was a cleaner looking engine and no more reed valve clicking.
