I've said it many times before, I just don't understand why everyone does not ride a Nomad, you just can't find a better bike-for-the-buck! Well, my fine friends, my Nomad let me down yesterday. That's right, it froze before I did. I ride year-round, which normally in North Alabama ain't all that bad. Yesterday a.m. was 13 deg, I went out to the garage, cranked 'er up and headed off to work. About half way there, I notice my turn signals did not appear to be working (but wasn't 100% sure if it was malfunctioning mechanicals, or was my thumb just frozen). When I got to work, I checked things out more carefully, and sure enough, the turn signals were not operational. Well crap, so I shut 'er down and went to remove the key, ooops. Turns out they key froze in the ignition, and the contacts in the signal housing had frozen. I ended up parking with the sun shinning on the critical areas, which I covered with black plastic, and by the end of the day, everything was fine again. I guess these fine little scoots do have their limits!? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

You must have some condensation in there for it to do that. I've never heard of the housing freezing and not working unless water was involved.

i have rode my nad in numerous sub zero rides and have never had that problem. might want to take a look at where you keep your bike... we do a freeze your butt ride every new years day. i ride as long as the roads are not slippery.

I think Tripp hit it, there had to of been a little condensation for it to freeze up....

My wife and I own a Townhouse and the Nomad sleeps under a good full cover out front. Rode many days in sub 32 degree weather and never had a problem with her.

Well, it's hard for me to believe you rode many days in sub 32 degree weather and never had a problem with your wife, but how did the bike do? http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

Sorry, couldn't resist. lol

+1 The Humidity in the south, is water in everything. Seems to be getting worse each year..

I admit though, my Nomad could ice up and I would not know it. When the temps below 50 degrees, all she gets from me is a smile as I walk by her in the garage.

Never had mine out that cold, coldest I've ridden in is the lower 40's.

Don't think I'll go any lower than that. :)

I agree with Triguy: he's got a wuss of a bike. Mine just sucks it up and takes whatever the weather throws at us. Clearly the rest of your Nomads do to. I think he should shoot it and get a new one.

I guess Triguy's main point is - "Wussy bike, not wussy rider!" Riding very far at all in the lower teens is no picnic, and biker fashion sure goes out the window. No doubt that moisture was the problem, never had that issue here, although condensation inside the helmet can be.

If you loved her you would spoon her when it is cold.

Ellis, you win buddy, that was my point exactly. I really don't mind riding in ANY weather, to me it's always better than being in a cage! ...and yes, it was water related. When I ride in the rain, I get home, wash 'er up good, and roll 'er into a nice, clean, snug garage, with 24/7 music just to keep 'er company. Once inside, I use my air compressor to dry everything off, then turn a fan on it for the evening to dry out (I thought) any residual moisture.

While we are on the subject of inclimate weather, FYI. The handlebar covers sold for ATVs are awesome at keeping your hands from freezing in the teens. I found a pair at a local dealership in black for $25. Money well spent! I also sport an HD batwing fairing and crash bars chaps, so it's all really rather bearable.

I just thought you guys would enjoy that story. Until next time guys, damn the weather, RIDE ON!

I'm with Ronnie. Maybe I'm the wuss, but 13 degrees is too cold for me. Frankly if I'm not enjoying the ride, it's not worth it.

Enjoyed the story. I make a point to protect all the necessary parts but it usually doesn't get that cold here http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif. Have ridden in the low 20s.
