Hi guys,
Just thought it would interesting to see what those that visit this forum do for a living..This is meant to see how deversified we all are, and how we become 1 when we add something as simple as a motorcycle.

We as motorcycle owners/riders in general are a very deversed group of people. I have met riders from all walks of life, and the majority of them would lend a helping hand under any condition.

I will start:.. I am a police officer. A Deputy Sheriff. I have been into law enforcement for the past 7 years. I am currently a K-9 handler and drug interdiction officer, working the highways in an attempt to locate illegal substances..I am also a D.A.R.E officer teaching 5th graders the negative effects of drugs and alcohol, as well as peer pressure.

I worked in the construction trade for 17 years before law enforcement. I still run a small side business doing remodels, additions, interior and exterior work..Gotta pay for my motorcycle riding somehow. :)

I hope this type of thread is allowed..If not, then please delete.

I work in the IT profession. I am a Senior Systems Administrator for a global electronics distribution company. Basically, I manage the software that interfaces our webservers with back-end applications. I've been in IT for 17 years. Prior to that, I've worked as a field service engineer, auto mechanic, and a Marine.

I work Performance Production.
I have worked as a professional musician and audio engineer since the late 70s. Used to work as a musician on the stage while contracting audio on the side. That's pretty much reversed now that I'm old and not so pretty anymore. Gotta have skills behind the scenes, yanno?
While I still mix shows, I spend most of my time designing high end performance audio systems for theaters, arenas, stadiums and churches.
We also have a touring division whose clients include:
Jars of Clay
Linkin Park
Blue Man Group
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
The Offspring
Sammy Hagar
Styx
Il Divo
Guster
Diana Krall
Norah Jones
Ricky Martin
R.E.O. Speedwagon
Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band
and several others as tours go on and off the road.

I'm a marriage and family therapist with my own private practice.

Prior to that I worked as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator. I can run a bulldozer, front end loader, backhoe, excavator, and track hoe. I can probably run more, those are just the ones I really operated.

Until recent years, I would still do a deck or a kitchen remodel as a favor for friends and family. Now I won't even do that, it seems too much like work. I only do it for myself now.

I work in IT for a hospital system doing "HL7 integration." My wife is a Registered Nurse who also works in the same department (2 doors down) as Clinical Informatics Systems Analyst.

I did nationwide consulting for years but got tired of flying to exotic places that I won't mention as I'll make someone mad who lives there and likes it there. I've been working with informations systems in some form or fashion for 35 years so feel as old as dirt.

I can agree with Rewindgy as I'm a southerner compared to him but would like to move someplace warmer w/o the snow. It was -20 last night when my furnace decided to quit.

Operations Coordinator in a 1.3 Billion cubic feet per day natural gas processing plant. I'm working on my 25th year at the same location. I recently interviewed for a Safety / PSM Coordinator position that will give me the safety and process safety management responsibility for 4 processing and fractionation plants. I am familiar with F5 Networks. We have several BigIP servers in our data center. BigIP is in front of most of the applications I support.

I gave up the family tech support badge several years ago. Before that, I was the family mechanic. Moving to Phoenix and away from the family helped.

I've been self employed for the past 20 years.

My first work was for My dad's store, and did the retail for approximately 10 years.

Was doing landscaping and exterior maintenance for a while (5+ years) then took my hobby "street racing" and opened up my own speed shop.

Took a break from working for myself and got a job and a steady pay check as an "Elevator Renovator". I was making those boxes that go up and down look nice!.
I got sick of having to travel to work morning and night so I just told them to keep the job, went to work at a local sign shop that was 4 minutes walk from home for a few years until they decided to sell off to a big company in town that would have meant more traveling morning and night again and for a lower pay!

Started my own (sign shop) and I diversified the services and product offered for me to be able to make a good living direct from home. being my own boss, again!.
I can play "hooky" when I want and don't have to answer to nobody but me.
The company is called EXIT66 Signs & Graphics

Like Dougster, I too am a pastor. I have been a Youth Pastor at a larger church on the Oregon Coast for the last 7 1/2 years, but I'm about to get <s>demoted </s> I mean promoted and will be receiving my own church here soon (Coach and PC, is there anything better than getting paid to hang out with teens on New Year's Eve or on a Ski trip or Summer Mission? You can't beat it!).

Actually, I'm very anxious to get my own church, and am looking forward to the opportunity. This church that I will be going to is just ripe to grow and help the community they are in, and at 40, I don't bounce back as easily as I used to. I guess you have to grow up sometime.

I'm always amazed at what we all do for a living. KawaNOW's got some of the best members I know.... we all work for a living, we don't just sit around bullying whole towns all day, like the movies suggest. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

What I do is boring to many, but it's what I have a passion for.

I've been in IT for various healthcare facilities for the past 22 years. I've worked as a Programmer Analyst, DBA, Data Center Manager, etc., etc. Worked in just about every language there is. Also, for the last 12 years, I've worked on the side designing, coding and implementing websites.

After being in charge of coding and maintaining all the financial software in SQL (payroll, time & attendance, AP, GL) at a major Tyler hospital for the last 6 years, they offered me a full-time position in Marketing as the Webmaster/Web Technologist. They must have known all of the late night upgrades and multiple server administration duties have been taking it's toll on me. Making sure 4,500 employees get paid and have their T&A work accurately will definately take its' toll after a while.

I took the job 8 months ago and have not looked back. I am currently over the web technology of Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals & Clinics in Tyler, Texas as webmaster... trying to get our web technology up and into the 22nd century. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I oversee three main websites, www.tmfhs.org (http://www.tmfhs.org) , www.casattexas.org (http://www.casattexas.org) and www.tmfneuro.org (http://www.tmfneuro.org)

I also oversee multiple individual physician websites at TMF.

And for what it's worth....I hold a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in Industrial Technology.

WOW, this thread isn't very old, but it's really long. You don't check in for a day and---BOOM! Started out in the early 70's working for a Honda motorcycle dealership and playing R&R while attending Purdue. Started teaching at Purdue (2 years) and a local high school for about 15 years and retired because I got really tired of being told what to do by people who didn't have a clue??

Opened up an AutoCad dealership and did that for 10 years until the bottom dropped out the the market and all the margins were gone. So I decided to go back into teaching and have been doing it this time for 11 years, teaching AutoCad, Inventor, 3D-Studio and Revit; thus the user name. Still play in a R&R band, the same guys I played with in college some 35 years ago.

For the past 22 years, I've been in the tool & die business (official title is "Tooling Tech-6"). I write CNC programs for, and use the CNC equipment. A lot of folks think it's tedious work, but I enjoy every minute of it. I especially enjoy the EDM wire machine. The 2 softwares I use most are Auto-Cad, and Feature-Cam. Before that, I was a certified diesel mechanic (Uncle Sam's Sea-Bees). I love working on things, and figuring out what will and won't work.

Sammy Hagar

This will be my last New Year's Eve with my kids (the teens from my church) so I decided to go out big. We'll leave the coast at noon, head up to an arcade center in Portland that also includes go carts, bumper boats, miniture golf, lazer tag, a roller coaster simulator and all you can eat pizza and drinks. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif After four hours of that, we'll head to an indoor water park with a 220 ft. water slide, 170 ft. hydro tube and 60 ft. drop slide. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif Two hours later we'll head to a church to catch some Z's. ;) In the morning we'll help those who suffer from "mall withdrawl" (our 100 ft. dash of a mall is hopeless) :) and then we'll head home. 29 hours later, I'll be wiped. :-/ And I get paid for this!!! :-[

Well, I push 18 wheels up and down the interstate reloacating freight. If you got it, a TRUCK brought it! Been doing it 25+ yrs now, and before that I was a coal miner in the mines of West Virginia. Thanks to the enviromentalist wackos (like ALGORE,Joe O'Biden, and others) the coal industry is nearly extinct. We in America have enough coal and oil to keep this country vaiable for 300-500 years, if you cvan get the wackos to go along with drilling and mining. I'd love to go back to mining again, but I'm so soft from trucking I dont know if I could handle an 8 hour day anymore. These 18-20 hours days are just fine. ;)

If she can get another five years at her present job, then she can retire and they will pay full medical. That is what we are looking for....lol

Hmmmm !

Professional gambler, bookie, ner'do well. Owned 7 casinos...have 5 non-restricted Nevada gaming licences (really, really hard to obtain...and staggeringly expensive too...)...but, mostly, I am retired. Enjoy spending time with my sweet wife of 46 years...trying hard to rebuild a marriage of 46+ years... and playing with my little Yorkie puppie. Here is a link to my Katie's 70'th birthday celebration this summer at my home. Bet few of you would be able to burn the candles I do...at 70 years. Alcohol, young wimmin and booze helps a body stay young and vigorous.

http://picasaweb.google.com/Slots7777/KatieS70ThBirthdayParty

Life is full of contrasts......I enjoy the calmer, quiet life these days. I spend lots of time hosting high-rollers at the Atlantis Casino in Reno..... but I must admit ...the booze, wimmens and late nights are wearing on this nearly 70 year-old body.

I surely will arrive at the grave...burned out...a empy husk of my former self. Caddman knows...and can vouch for my debauched life (G). I would rather, these days, to eat a simple peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich at home with Katie...than the 5-6 course meals I have so often....

You asked...so I told ya ! <G>

I did design and machining for the past 30yrs.. I'm independant but have had kawasaki, honda, moto guzzi, susuki, harley, yamaha and laverda all come thru my shop for one off work. Also got into Catalina's(pby) for mods. Currently I haul a 30 wheeler up and down the roads for the past 9yrs. This could all change in the next month or so, as I'm going for a new job interview next week..yes ..back to "heavy" equipment operating. Not a bad life for a 70+ self employed person.... Good profession if you truly have the skill and stress tolerance.

Every day is an adventure into really possible poverty or wealth...

Best regards to all of you....

Left AT&T in 1998 and tried a variety of things I had always thought would be fun (turns out they weren't) but eventually landed in Property Management Consulting. My biggest complaint would be the candidates they support. I wouldn't want to pay for candidates I don't agree with. I guess that is why I've never worked for a union and probably never will. That and I am more libertarian in my thinking about labor and work relationships.

I don't support the Unions choice of politicians either. I don’t understand there mentality. They support candidates that say they support the working man and are against big business (that’s bull@$&*) but the unions eat it up. If your party starts with the letter “D” the unions support you no matter what. If you ran saying your goal was to destroy the unions and your party started with a “D” they would cheer you and send you money. Every year I send them a letter requesting the portion of my dues that go to anything other than bargaining expenses be refunded to me. By law they have to do this and for the last 31 yrs they have.

My position is that if someone wants to form a union that negotiates contracts with an employer, that is fine. Employers should be allowed to negotiate as they see fit as do employees. On the other hand, I think we could do away with the rules that allow unions to gain foot hold with less than 51% of employee buy in as it were. I also don't believe that if someone has already been at a job and doesn't want to be union, that they have to be, but then they aren't bound by the same contract either. Basically, my idea is that every person exercises his or her free will within the same natural rights as everyone else. The problem is that groups or tribes as I call them, try to get a leg up on others and want superior rights. When that happens, someone eats the maure sandwich.

I'd be interested in running a poll to see how many Union supporters there are here at KawaNOW, and how many don't like Unions in their work place. So I'm going to set one up in the NNT-OMT board. Give me a little time as I need to find out how to do a multi question poll or even if that's possible.

Just trying to find something else in a current field is hard enough let alone a new field. For some reason it's harder to change gears when older...Might be agism. I think employers expect that one is "settled in" by a certain age. Thing is, people are living and working longer than ever before. I think that retirement at 62 or 65 will be considered too young in the future as life expectancy increases. My hope is that there will be more available than being a greeter at wally world.

Or retrieving shopping carts.. I can hear it now, "Hey Ponch, just how many carts did you have hooked to that pusher when you hit that BMW?" http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

I worked changing oil and tires in the local China-Mart for three months back in 2002 it REALLY SUUUUUUKED! After holding the same job as a welder for over 25 years the place closed due to faulty Indonesian ownership. Being a trash man for the last 8 years has been the best job I have ever had.

Let's see... at 21years old was on-air doing the top40 thing at FM99 KNUS in Dallas.. that lasted into the early 80's... saw a lot of wild things during the payola era... then one day looked around at some of my 30-something buddies and decided the lifestyle would kill most of them... so it was off to college.. UT-Dallas... then into high-tech firms... grunt, supervisor, manager, then director, of various operations, support, and QA groups over the years... then made the switch to sales... and it was good ! made some really-really nice money before a sales-force consolidation moved the jobs out of Texas... now with inside sales at PepsiCo selling every conceivable kind of soft beverage to the people who sell to you...

I'd be interested in running a poll to see how many Union supporters there are here at KawaNOW, and how many don't like Unions in their work place. So I'm going to set one up in the NNT-OMT board. Give me a little time as I need to find out how to do a multi question poll or even if that's possible.

Are you crazy Rick, that's only going to kick the hornet's nest with that subject. Most here are on the Christian right and hate Unions and you'll get their opinion all right. Leave them be with their "right to work for less" states, or as I call it " the race to the bottom". Unions rule, and god bless Canada and most of the world for their same thinking attitudes.

hehe.........let the games begin.............

Licensed Journeyman Plumber working as a "closer" for a Service plumbing company in Seattle.
That means when $it breaks I fix it. It also means that some weeks I put in 60 hours for less than $60.00 and other weeks I "clean up" with $100.00+/hr. take home. (it's a $itty Bidness).

I don't know about the Christian Right, but I take the libertarian standpoint...For the record, I love Canadians, but I think you could be wrong. My take is different from traditional right or left:

Employers and employees are free to work out a contract if they see fit, but if an employee(s) don't want to be part of a union, they cannot be forced to join, pay dues or otherwise support a union. To that extent, an employee that bows out is not bound by the contract a group negotiates with the employer and must seek there own agreement with the employer. If an employer doesn't want to negotiate with a union, he or she is free to do what he or she deems is in his or her best interests. If there is an agreement in place, both sides must abide by it, but once an agreement expires or if there is not an agreement in place, there should be nothing legally binding forcing an employer to negotiate with a union if they do not want to. Same goes if a union tries to form. An employer should be allowed to terminate the relationship with any employee(s) if they wish to if there is no contract binding them. It doesn't mean unions can't be formed, but that unions aren't and shouldn't be a gun to the head of an employer.

This allows both sides to exercise their free will within the responsibility of the consequences of their actions.

I have been selling industrial electrical controls for 29 years, dang, just added those years up and that's scary. I was a parts/service zone manager for Ford Motor for about 6 six years in the middle of all this selling electrical stuff. Before all this I worked as a ticket agent for Eastern Airlines in Atlanta while going to college. That was a great job but it was part time and not much of a future......I should say so, Eastern flew off into the sunset. I guess I have about 6-7 more years before I will hang it up unless I'm am pushed off into retirement by the younger generation bosses.
