Went with a small group (5 bikes) on a ride to Ft. Myers for a bike night to support a friend that was putting it on. We started around 11:45 and took back roads from Brooksville, FL to Sarasota, FL to eat at Yoder's Amish Restaurant http://www.yodersrestaurant.com/. What a great place to eat. Had some sausage and sauerkraut, with 5 bean salad and hot beets (haven't had those for ages). Finished it off by splitting some chocolate peanut butter pie with Tammy.

After we got done eating, around 4:00, we took US 41 down toward Ft. Myers. About Port Charolette area, I noticed my speedometer was acting weird, then stopped working. At a stop light, I looked down and saw that the cable had come loose at the nacelle and dropped all the way to the clip near the wheel. I pulled it over in a parking lot and broke out the tools and got it reattached. My buddies on HD's were making comments about a Jap bike breaking down, but I pointed out it was due to my mechanic not tightening it when he reattached it last week.

We got to Sun Powersports in Ft. Myers around 7:00 and met up with a few riders we had ridden with in the past. Headed home up I-75 around 9:00. Got into the garage around 12:45 a.m. All told, about 500 miles for Tammy and I yesterday.

glad to hear you had a good ride Coach...at least when your bike went dowm it was fixable on the spot - versus - the Harley having to be hauled off;)

AND you just gave me an idea for a new thread:)

Ha ha! Our ride leader said "how do you know what to do?" I told him I had replaced the cable before. He said "I'd be calling AAA right about now"...lol.

I have a buddy who has a road king...he had a girl all geared up for a ride head to toe...he got on bike hit start button...nothin,,,of coarse the other two of us with Kaw/Honda asked him if we need to bring our bikes over and shine some light on his so he could trouble shoot...yes we laughed at his expense (hope karma doen't swing around!)...anywhooo, right there in the parking lot, he tore that bike apart...seat, side panels, saddle bags, toolkit...all of it, all over the parking lot...wish I had a camera for that truly was a HD yard sale;)

And after he had it all torn apart did he discover that the problem was he had the kill switch in the off position? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Thanks for the post, Coach. We "cold-weather" people need lots of these posts to get us through the winter. I love reading about trips people take.

I would post pictures but my wife is in charge of the camera and she "forgot" again.

Sound like you had a good time. Keep the camera in the saddle bag. Might have to buy batteries every time you go on a trip. Think Gas/Batteries. LOL.

Statistically speaking... I've heard that 95% of all Harleys are still on the road.

The other 5% finally made it home. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
