View Full Version : What would you change on the Nomads?

Recently there have been a couple of threads about what you like about Nomads, how about what you would like to see changed?
I'd like a cruise control. Should be an easy thing with the fuel injection, it's hard to imagine why they aren't doing it already.
A trunk that is as attractive as the bags are would be great.
What else?

Cruise control, sound system, better FI, better seat, Trunk.

fairing with tunes
I'd see it equiped like a Star Royal Star Venture. Full Fairing, Audio package, Lowers, and Trunk. A GPS, heated grips and seat would be nice too.
But that's just me.

I think ma kaw is starting to think a dresser. The introduction of the new radio system for the nomad is just a start. There are a few of us that like the full dresser look and others like it the way it comes. So outside of a really good 6 speed transmission, a bigger fuel tank, and cruise control as stock, the rest could be ordered from the factory as an add on. Then one can go as much or as little as is wanted.
Rumor has it that ma kaw is thinking of bringing back the Voyager. With the solid 1600cc and 2000cc engines, it would be really easy to introduce a full dresser based on either one of those engines.

I like the looks of a widshield and hardbags on a bike.
Cruise control, tach and either a little bigger tank or better mpg would also be good.

More hp and torque with better mpg, including a 6th gear. That's not asking too much, is it? ;-)

Matching trunk to blend in with the hard bags, tach, cruise control, kinder seat, better mpg, and a cooling system to take some of the heat off my legs riding in Florida. Otherwise it's perfect.
cruise is really my only complaint but not a huge deal. Did anyone else get a survey from kawasaki wanting to know what you like and dislike in a cruiser?

I received a survey but that was also more then 2 years ago.
The one feature that I really miss that I had on the Goldwing is the electric reverse. I really is handy on a 800 pound motorcycle when one discovers that he is going down a dead end road that is to narrow to U turn on. Particular if it is gravel.

I think most of you guys have said it already, Make it more like a dresser with a trunk and fairing and it would become a top notch touring bike. Also heated grips and cruise control would make late season riding more enjoyable, especially here in the north.

Better mileage or bigger tank. One can always add Fairing / Trunk / Lowers or what ever to make it there own! Or just leave it the way it is. The biggest beef I have is in a perfect world the range on the tank is just barely acceptable - add a big wind and your outa fuel big time! And there isn't always an open gas station just around the bend!

I can see larger lowers to block the air and far more hp, but that's about it. It already has a 5.3 gal gas tank, one of the bigger. Not sure how much bigger you would want it, those of you asking Santa for it. You looking to get one the size of a Boss Hoss? lol.
As for a trunk, no thanks, not for me. If I start riding a bike with a trunk, I feel like I might as well get back in my cage. Same with the fairing. I like the look of our bike and don't want mine to become a GW or H-D. Don't get me wrong though, some of you guys have really sweet looking rides, but I like the look of my baby just fine. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

In addition to my original list, I've got to agree with a Tach, and heated grips.
What's with no tach?
In past decades even the cheapest of bikes had tachometers.
If you had to raise the price of a $12,000 bike by $60 to have good looking heated grips with a switch that looked like it belonged, who besides Hawaiians would complain?
Full dressed and an extra gear

One thing that Harley does well is their detachable accessories like sissybar/trunk/etc.
I'd love to have a clean looking detachable trunk and sissybar. So it's easy to change from the cool solo look to two-up. I like the fairing, but just like to have some tunes without earbuds would be nice. The stock seat is a joke, but so are most other stock seats! and of course it ain't neccessary, but MORE POWER!

Actually the Premuix trunk has slotted front mounts on the front and two bolts to remove on back. You could pop the whole thing off in probably 5 minutes. As for the fairing same thing loosen 2 bolts and remove two and unplug one connector and its off. You can then slam the stock windscreen back on - again 5 minutes tops.

Harleys have 6 gallons now and if you want capacity, the R1200GS adventure has 8.7.

Hi guys,,, I would settle for just the way it is except for the loud lifter noise. If they had removed that I would still be riding one.....

I was upset to find that i lost seating space with my nomad. My last bike was a volcan 900 and there was more room for the passanger
I'd add a gallon to the gas tank. I don't need a 6th gear, two overdrives are enough, but I think they should make 1st, 2nd, and 3rd a little lower so there is more spread between gears and better options at 20 - 35 miles per hour in town. Cruise control would also be nice. So would ABS brakes.

I got a bud with a 2006 900 Classic and he got the first Corbin seat for that model...In fact his bike was used to make it....It's much roomier than the Nomad stock or Corbin seat.

I wouldn't have thought so considering how many people put risers on the Nomad. I have sat on the 900 and didn't particularly like it, but I came from an 800 Classic, which is a small bike.

Sometimes, I wish the saddle bags opened from the top, other than that can't think of much, maybe a little higher max gross weight - yes, I know you can go over it but... Wouldn't complain about a little more HP but like the mileage as it is, a turbo maybe.

If I could change ONE thing it would be a better saddle.
I had no complaint about my 99 Nomad seat, logged 63,000 miles on the stock seat. Magazine testers raved about what a good seat it was too.
Then I got my 05, and hated that seat. It had me squirming in a couple of hundred miles. Same with the 06.
Don't know why they would take a step backwards on the seat.

Amen on that. After 40-45 minutes, my tailbone starts to hurt. I have been tempted to take matters into my own hands, but I don't have an upholsterers staple gun. I know there are a few places that redo seats reasonably.
http://www.rickmayercycle.com/index.html
http://www.meancitycycles.com/
These are a bit more reasonable than the standard Corbin or Mustang. I had a Mustang 2 piece vintage on my 800 and I would say it wasn't much better than the stock seat on the Nomad. The stock seat on the 800 Classic is the worst seat I have ever ridden on. After 30 minutes I'd want to jump off the bike. With that said, I am a little gun shy about blowing $500 on a mustang seat or more for a corbin.

My guess is a combination of either cost and/or looks. I have never ridden a 1500, so I can't say, but the 1600 puts way too much pressure on my tailbone.

I work with a guy that has a 2005 se ultra. $35k. Has had numerous issues with it. We have riden together several times and I can keep up with him...no problem.
The Nomad is a great, nice looking platform to start with. It's awesome out of the box and from I've seen from many of your bikes is a great customizable bike. I added brakeaway cruise a taillight kit and chaps for the engine guards. I'd love to have music and an intercom. Not much else though. If I wanted a full blown bike I'd be looking at a wing.

Not saying that you can't wish for a lower first gear, but riding the clutch at low speeds is fine. I wouldn't think of it the same as if you were doing it in a car.

Well, wish my 99 had the 5 gal tank rather then the 4.2. It would be nice if they offered some optional items like a fairing, trunk, ect,,. I guess it would be big$$ more so than the aftermarket stuff we all can find. I truly think in stock form, the nad`s are a little underpowered as for rear wheel hp.
