A little early to be throwing in the towel, I think.

thats too bad their are a lot of us whom can't afford to fly to Europe or spend weeks in the rockies skiing, but we love to ride a few hundred miles and meet with other bikers this is our big get away, I have a lot of friends that will be disappointed when they see this I would hope they re-think this after the first of the year.
ride safe

Wow - we've done the Honda Hoot in Knoxville a few times. I guess they have so much pre-planning behind the scenes if they are going to cancel they would have to cancel early. I wonder if a lot of vendors canceled.

Even though it was my first time to go folks that have been going to theTrail of Tears for years said this year's was the smallest vendor turnout they have every seen.

Wonder it America will see a downsizing? I guess time will tell.

I wouldn't doubt that that was a huge factor. A lot of companies are going to hold on to their capital in the upcoming months.

You do mean Honda hooters and NOT the Hooters waitresses right? ;)

They know things are bad and are most likely to get worse. Sad but probably true.

Unwind2; you have likely come close to hitting the nail-on-the-head as to the reason for the cancellation.

I am involved in a different event (air show) which likely has some similarity.

With our event; if the corporate sponsorship doesn't come through; then we would have to cancel -- because attendance-tickets; vendor-rents or sales-splits; and other such revenue generated from the event is never enough to pay to the event -- thus huge corporate money is needed to keep it afloat.

We are having the Blue Angels at our event on May 30-31st of '09. If it were not for a "headliner" like them -- we would likely not see the corporate money.

Sad to see this has happened.

No chance of this happening to the Custer Rally, unless Trip has some commercial backing he hasn't told us about. And yes, Hooters are welcome, if they come on a Nomad, or are thinking about a Nomad, or know somebody with one, or heard of one or...

I am not sure if it's related but - here in Canuck Land they have pulled all Honda sales from Bike Shop's and only allowing Mega Car Dealers to be " One Stop" Honda product Dealers. Guess what's not working? None of the Car Dealers want to sell Bikes / ATV's / Snowblowers / Lawnmowers / Generator's - so guess how this is going? I was into a Bike Shop today who was one of the largest here in Calgary and they are now kinda allowed to sell Honda but they can't get any product and haven't been allowed to put in a Stock order for 2009! They have maybe 5 2008 bikes and a couple of leftover 08 ATV's. The Bike Show is coming up in January and they won't have any new stuff to showcase! I think everyone in Canada should just boycott "Honda" and maybe show them a lesson! I feel for the guys who havt Honda's now and need to get Warranty work done as they are can't take them anywhere. Indie shops can do the work but can't send in Warranty Claims - so customer is out of pocket! What total Arrogance from Honda!

Now that just isn't right. I can see not producing produce if you aren't making any money. But, to pull product from your retail outlets like that just isn't right. Sounds like Honda is trying to pull the plug on everything except auto, the dying line.

The Custer rally is still a go! No mega corporate backing here...so no one to back out on us. However, if anyone wants to donate to the general party fund, well, you can just buy more beer when we get there.

All Hooters are welcome real or fake, just make sure you show them to me as I am the official inspector of the rally.

Makes me even more glad that I bought the Nomad instead of a VTX.
