View Full Version : Nomad Paint Job/Color Preference

Now that we looked at, what each of us wanted in a stock color, I would be interested in hearing what you all would really prefer, if you had a choice of any paint job and/or color?
I like the metalic, metal flake blue or even in a green with pin striping. The two-tone is nice, but I will more than likely go with one color. Something really off the wall, that I've seen and looks sharp, is the "Candy Apple Burnt Orange".
As for the paint job or design, I am currently working on designing a theme for my bike, as I continue to dress it up.

I've always thought it would look cool to have a Nomad done in glossy black with a lot of gold pinstriping.
But I also think the Nomad has such great lines, you can pretty much go with any color combo you want and have a great looking bike!
There are a couple of combinations I'd like to try. One would be the pearlized white as a base with touches of the "blond" or gold throughout. Just exactly where would take a lot of study. I like the flames as you can see from the Sabre, but I really love the real-flames.
I'd like to try some sort of candy purple w/ maybe a deep red or maroon-red and real-flames. Every now and then, I take a look at the Honda and wonder if I shouldn't pull it apart, and experiment with it. Problem is, I love riding the Nomad so damn much. The other bike is really just a toy. I hate to put that much into a toy.
One of the most interesting bikes I've ever seen is a Harley classic that one of our customers has painted in a Mickie Mantle theme. The base is sort of a pearlized white covered mostly in wood grain look like a bat. Throughout, there are scenes of baseball events. The overall paint job is extraordinary. It is signed and ocupies it's own special room with special locks. All along the walls is lots of other memorabilia.

Not sure how to describe it, but it's a pearl white that changes color depending on the light and viewing angle. Or just a straight pearl white, no flake, with blue ghost flames.
I need to dig into my service manual and figure out how to get the wheels off my bike, then I'll feel a lot more confident in the attempt.

I think a blue and orange color scheme would be nice, with an air-brushed image of "Thunder" on the tank or trunk. Audiogooroo will know what I mean.
In reality, I think purple (like the '70 Plymouth Roadrunner) with gold pinstriping would look nice.

I think if I was going to change the stock color I would go with a Metallic Purple faded into a Metallic Black and have some custom lettering and real fire flames. Not a lot of flames, just a subdued old school job. I would also have the tank badges removed.
Oh, wait, I already had that done. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

My "dream paintjob" would have pearl white that fades into scarlett blood that is dripping over black from the front and top to the back tips of the saddlebags. The look I am going for is that the blood is cleaning the black off the bike and turning it "white as snow".
I'd like to change out the tail lights as well. I'd like to have a 6" LED tail light in the shape of a cross on the fender with a 4" LED tail light on each saddlebag that works as running lights as well as a turn signal.

I'm kinda thinking of a Tribal design laid out over the black and match the color of the design to my Limited Edition Scion XD in HOT LAVA...it might be close to your burnt orange and as it's a stock Scion color, it would be easier to repair and match

I really love the Harley shade of metallic Cobalt Blue, and I think it would look good with the Kawi metallic Phantom Silver. Not as much silver as stock though, maybe just silver pin stripping. I do like my flames being the metallic Phantom Silver. Another thing I would like would be to fill in the strips on the saddlebag doors so they would be smooth.

I love Kawi's Phantom Silver. I am also a big fan of the way the green seems to be black when the angle of the light is just right. I would like to see something in Hemi Orange and Silver.

Black ice metallic with gold pinstriping and a picture of the twin towers burning and an eagle with outstretched claws super imposed in front of them on each saddlebag.

White or Pearl White would be my choice. Always thought that was the best color for bikes. Don't like white cars though.

My Dad had an Allis-Chalmers dealership when I was growing up. At that time the tractors where Persian Orange with Cream highlights. So I've always been a sucker for Orange. I like the looks of classic two-tone. Oh Yeah!

I agree. When we were talking about the calendar, I said that Chuckster's bike (http://kawanow.proboards77.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=chuckster131) is one of my favorites. Some of the things I like about it are the fact that the strips are filled in, and the paint on the saddlebag doors is unique.

I am currently looking at painting mine black pearl and toxic lime green. The black pearl would take the place of the blue and the toxic lime done in a crystal pattern with retro glow added so the green will glow on its own at night will take the place of the silver. Then real gold leafing done as the pin stripping

How I would like to be able to do what you do to your "toys"!!
Unfortunately for me, I have to pay for what you can do.
"Old-School" colors are my favorites as well -- especially two-toned schemes with "cream-color" as one of the two colors in combination with red/orange pin-striping.

I think audiogooroo hit the nail on the head when he said the Nomad has such nice lines, any color looks good. I am very partial to the red/black offered in '08, and a similar color combination that was offered a few years back, also. The first new Kenworth I purchased was done up in red/black. I also like white/red.
Sometimes a bike done up in a nice flame job looks good, too. Everyone has their definition of what a 'nice' flame job is...

Hey vOlusia... a familiar name from the old VOL site! Glad to say another ex-Volusia rider on a Nomad. Syill missthe Volusia, especially as a short-ride bike. And bringing it back to the topic... my old 40th Anniversary had a pearl paint job that looked way better than my silver/black Nomad's.
Seeing your sig file quote about Zookoff brought back memories. I was among a the handful that accompanied Zane to his final resting spot (a very sad and cold fast ride up Highway 6)

Did you use particle board for the structure? Is that a thin sheet over the curved part (the top)? Great work!
lasse

Yes, the sides are made of particle board, the top
by "masonit". Again i´m not sure if that´s what it´s
called over there.. ??? 3 mm thick board that is smooth
on one side and rippled on the other side. Rather flexible..
Hope you understand... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
