First of all, thanks Trip for a great site!
Second, I have to first qualify my question by saying, there is no finer cruiser on the road, for my money, than my Nomad.
Lastly, and my question. If I had to complain about one thing, it would be the seat. Especially on a long ride. If I had to gas up on butt breaks I'd be broke.
Could I please have the boards suggestions regarding seat mods, replacements etc?
Thanks Very Much in Advance!!!!

Hi,
I have an '05 Nomad. I'm okay on stock on short trips. On long trips I use a butt buffer and it helps a lot. Ride safe. Nancy

I have an 05 myself and yes the stock seat sucked for me on trips longer than 50 miles. I spent some bucks and went with the Day Long by Russell Products. The wife and I LOVE the seats we can go from gas stop to gas stop all day long with no butt pain. The only thing that sucks is that you have to send in your seat pans. I bought a stock seat off of a 05 1600 classic as a fill in when I sent my seats off to be modified.

Check them out they make a great product.

I used to hate the stock seat until I bought a extra large daypack with a built in back rest on one side of it. For some strange reason having something to lean against takes the heat out of the ol' caboose and I can knock off 250 miles with relative ease.

I do plan on getting either a Day Long or Mustang with the built in back rest eventually.

that's how its been for me...stock seat doesn't bother me all that much, backrest is a must. just got one in so as soon as bike gets out the shop, i will put on the new backrest and am pretty sure this will do the job. got the "bak-up" backrest. anyone ever heard of it? it seemed very similiar to the utopia, but installation seems a lot less complex and i don't have to poke any holes in my seats -- at least not from what i can tell/read.

This is the link to the 1600 nomad drivers backrest. I am going this route so I don't have to put holes in my passenger seat or have those bars around the seat or a hoop thing over the seat. I emailed them and they said this would attach to the bracket that holds down the passenger seat.

I too am less than in love with the stock seat on my 07 Nomad. It didn’t take long to decide that something had to be done to improve the comfort. I can't remember how I arrived at the site below, but a sheepskin gelpad is my next step, since I can't see shelling out the bucks for a Mustang or Corbin seat just yet.

I take a lot of long rides, and I was having the same problem. I tried the gel pads; they didn't help me at all. So, I got a set of Airhawk inflatable pads. For my money, you can't beat the airhawk for long hauls. If I'm only going on a short ride; 4-5 hours, I just use the bare seat. I'm sure everyone has they're own comfort zone, but this is what worked for me.
good luck

Before you spend big bucks on a gel pad try this project. It cost me $10 and a little time but it works great. I didn't think the original seat on my 2007 Nomad is that bad to begin with but this makes it even better.

I was going to do that before I bought my Day Long seat but I would of had to by several wash mitts to cover my big butt.LOL

VERY GOOD CHOICE.

Hey, the stock seat on the Nomad is fine. It's just that the rest of the motorcycle is so wonderful that it makes the seat seem uncomfortable by comparison. ;)

I bought a Russells "Day Long" too. I have NO butt pain at all on all day rides. We do a couple 400+ mile day rides every year and really...No pain, only comfort. I did the ride-in service (extra $80) and it was done all the same day.

Finally clicked on that link for Day-Long seats and checked them out. As soon as I looked at the Nomads on the gallery page my butt told me in no uncertain terms that that is what it wants. You can tell just looking at them that they will be comfortable. I guess my plan of action will be to order them after this riding season is over unless I have a cash windfall AND am able to find another set of loaner seats from some kind soul.

When I bought my 05 it came with a Mustang Seat on it. I had been off a bike for about a year and I expected some discomfort but the saddle is very comfortable and I think well worth the investment.

WHAT'D YOU DO WITH THOSE CLASSIC SEATS WHEN YOU GOT YOUR ORIGNALS BACK? IF YOU HAVE THEM AND INTERESTED INSELLING THEM, LET ME KNOW I MIGHT BE INTERESTED.
