So I take my first trip on my new Nomad and log in about 225 miles and get to thinking I've got to improve the stock seat (ouch) :'(.
Guess my choices are:
-Replace it with an aftermarket seat
-Have the stock seat sculptured and gel pads and foam added
-Get a saddle gel seat pad with sheepskin cover
Each has it's advantages, primarily price. What to you think?
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving..Joe

Mayer Day Long is the priciest but from what I understand head and shoulders about the rest. Bobzinger has one, mucho bucks but would never part with it.

Mustang with rider backrest. Not the cheapest, but it's hard to put a price on comfort.
Mustang. :)

My wife and I just completed a 600 mile round trip on our new mustang seat w driver backrest. It was wonderful. I don't need to stop as often.

That "Day Long" is made by Russell's. You can get one for about $550. Problem is the wait...you have to send in your seat cause they use the seat pan.

Can't compare as it's my only after-market seat, but it beats stock. I average 2,500 miles a month this year and my A$$ is happy.
My wife liked the stop passenger seat better than the Vintage Mustang seat I had on my 1600 Classic so I had a Saddleman's Xtra Large gell pad put into mine by a cousin that is an upholsterer by trade. I gave him a copy of this:

to go by and I love it. It does not bottom out like the stock or even my old Mustang which I really liked.

Mustang. Just wish I had the $$ for the driver back rest when I got it.
Mrfuni:
I went with the AMSS seat rework with gel pads and foam, and it was better then stock. I added Alaskanleathers sheepskin buttpads and it is now way better then stock. I'm now looking at adding a backrest.
The problem is I have spent $300 so far and, with the backrest, will spend well over $500. I think if I could do it over again, I would go with the mustang seats with driver's backrest.

I didn't really think the stock seat was all that uncomfortable.
Sure after 350 or 400 miles it hurts but I just made a sheepskin cover like on Gadgets page and bought a 1" piece of foam and glued it to the bottom of the sheepskin.
Bought a Bak-up drivers backrest and and I'm good to go. What the he11 you have to stop every 160 miles or so to gas up.
I put a Mustang seat on my 650 Yamaha 'cause that seat was terrible. Couldn't go 40 miles without butt hurting. the mustang didn't impress me enough to buy one for this bike. Sorry I just can't see putting $600 into a seat.
Before I bought the Mustang for the 650 I purchased a gellpad at Americade and took it off half way home. It felt like I was sitting way up in the air and I didn't like the position it put me in.

I have a Corbin Dual Tour and a screwed up back. Stock seat after about 20 miles I was ready to walk. Now I can ride about 1 hour before I start to get sore. Maybe a back rest would help but at $250 I would have to try one first to see if I like it. I'm 6.o 300lbs the seat bucket catches me right in my lower back right where my back problems are. I wish I would have spent the money on a Russels Day long. I still may send for one someday.

The Russell day-liong seat has also received kudo's here on this forum. http://www.day-long.com/new_pages/prices.html
I've had the Mustang Wide Touring seat set with Driver's Backrest on a previous bike and LOVED IT! It does raise you up and forward an inch or so, but after some butt time, you'll settle into your "spot" on it. A bit costly, but very well made and worth it to your butt/back.
My $.02,
Daryl

BTW, if you do decide to go with the Mustang seat set, I got a very good price, including shipping from Xtreme in Ohio: 1-866-848-0355. Ask for Travis or Guy in the Parts Dept and mention that you're from the Kawasaki forum.
Hope this helps,
Daryl
