Not even close with 2-up and luggage.
I'm ok when I load the bags. I'm still good when I strap down the loaded T-Bags. I'm great when my size 4 passenger straddles her station, BUT, as soon as I plop my fat arse down. Well, you can throw the manual out the window. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif
But the Nomad has never complained. You gotta love these machines. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Isn't that what airshocks are for? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
Seriously, I don't see how 2-up and any amount of luggage and tools can stay under the limit. Isn't this a touring bike? http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif
And doesn't that limit include any add-ons? (and maybe even the saddlebags)

Perhaps better tires. That's what is supporting the weight.
I know that riding 2-up I'm over the limit. Thats before counting the luggage, sparklies and do-dads. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I know I'm over that 2-up with luggage but even my 1500 never complained. I saw that 408 lbs. max limit in the manual and I think they are just erring on the safe side, the Nomads have plenty of power and torque.
I can't wait to take the new bike on a long road trip http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I'm over that 2up without luggage and I plan on pulling a trailer, which is also not recommended. That number has to be like the weight rating on a ladder. Always about 100 pounds under what the ladder can actually hold.

I'll have to agree with the others, when I'm loaded down, 2-up, and going for a week+ trip, I KNOW I'm over the limit. The bike handles it with no complaints, and no control problems.

It's one of those attorney driven kinda things. Just like the warning on the luggage rack that says 10# limit, and the warning in the side bags that say the same. I would be true to the limits on each tire, making sure that if your close to the limit in pounds of weight placed on each tire (stated on the tire) that you have at or close to the limit of air pressure (as noted on the side of the tire) and not in the little owners book . A tire that has too little of air per the load it's trying to carry will heat up fast and blow if it gets too hot. It also causes the tire to be trashed in a short distance!

Funny this subject should come up. My wife and I are planning to ride to the National in Custer next June and I'm already figuring on a pretty heavy load.
We're close to the limit just sitting on the bike, but I plan to have full saddlebags, a t-bag, and two large dry bags strapped to the tops of the saddlebags to hold rain gear, leathers, etc.
I'm pretty sure we will be giving the bike a real test of it's capabilities.... http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

2-up we are over and never had a problem. We went to an IDPA shoot 2-up with all our gear in the bags and the Nad never mentioned the weight. Ran just fine and handled well.

iv never had a problem with riding 2 up with fully loaded saddle bags and a full tail pack. wife and i spent a week on vacation with bike fully loaded and had no problem at all
Surprisingly when my G/F and I are out for a trip we are able to stay under the limit.I'm about 180 and she is 120,gas is 30,still leaves 70 lbs for luggage and what have you.
