I removed the battery from the 05 Nomad yesterday for the winter then got to thinking today about the mileage and clock settings. Will they be saved ? No power where the bike is stored so no chance to use a battery tender.

Mileage will be there but you will have to reset the clock. That would be nice. Pull the battery and have a new Nomad!!!

What is this winter you speak of?

It is a time of year that only affects carbon-based units located up North. Large amounts of white, powdery stuff and temps that can only be described as "polar bear titty" cold.

I live in Texas where riding is a 24/7 possibility. I haven't experienced real winter, per say.

This winter we speak of is endured by every Canadian. It is the 6 month period known as the "motorcycle preservation months" which makes their motorcycles last longer. During this 6 month period we plan all the mods we are going to do once the bike comes out of storage, usually sometime in April. If we were unhappy with said motorcycle when we put it in storage the period known as winter can be the time we come up with all the reasons why we should sell said motorcycle and get another. This is also the time when she who must be obeyed comes up with the "honey do" list and also comes up with all the reasons why you should not buy another motorcycle.

In April all is well as the "honey do" list has been completed and the mods for the bike are waiting to be installed. Such is life in The Great White North.

Let me try to sum up this winter we speak of from my point of view.
Shoveling, snow blowing, brushing off the vehicles and starting them 15 minuets before you want to use them to warm up the inside and melt the ice off the windshield.
Winter sucks. I cannot ride while you guys down south can.

Ahhh...the white stuff is snow, not sand eh? Don't see much of that around these parts...snow that is. I think we had some back in 1987. Well, you all can trailer them (I know that is against KawaNOW code) down here and ride the flat lands of Florida with me. It does get a little chilly but not too bad.

That was the first reason I moved to Texas 32 years ago. The snow and the long winters. Don't miss it at all. If I did I can always go and visit it. I liked Wisconsin, but just couldn't do the winters anymore.

Hey you Canuks, let's get the snow cannons fired up and aim them at Florida for a month and then Texas. I'll get the booster ready. Sometimes those cannons don't quite make it that far south without a little help.

Coacha and Trip, we can make your dreams come true and enjoy a white winter. :)

One of the reasons I moved to Texas as well, its like summer year round. I did live on the Canadian border up by Sault Ste Marie for a couple of years and winter can really suck up there.

One good thing about the snow...you can pull out the Motorcycle's little brother, the snowmobile and continue to ride.

Hey Blue Rebel, I was in Sault Ste. Marie (Kincheloe AFB) for the Winter of 67/68, then on to Rome, New York (Top Cats neck of the woods) for Winter 68/69. You are absolutely right about the winters up there. Then the Air Force took pity on me and sent me to Vietnam to thaw out for 69/70. It took 10 months over there before I got warm again! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Moved to Georgia when I got out of the service in Sept. 70 and stayed here ever since. Actually get snow here once in a while. That's enough for me.

I might see snow once a year for a half a day in El Paso, Texas. That's good enough for me as well. I like my sunshine.

Nice pics, reminds me as a kid in Northern Michigan. You could stand on the snow banks and look down at the plow trucks as they went by and look eye level at the power lines.

Actually, it a great riding day to day in the Colorado flatlands.

I moved from Michigan to Texas (Houston) too humid, moved to San Francisco too foggy, and too hot (100+ for 2 months) and then to Sacramento (too Rainy) than to Miami FL (whew I thought Houston was humid) and Now in Birmingham. Best place for me was Miami for riding very little temp swings. Best Place I have enjoyed living is here in Al. Lots and lots of bikes more than any other placed I have lived. Mostly Harleys but wow.
I went on a teddy bear run today at 8:00 am when I left to go meet my riding club it was 46 degrees warmed up to 65 by 2:00 and I felt it droping by the time I got back home at 4:00.
I hate the winter, I would rather ride in 100 degree summer than 30 degree winters. This will be my second winter here, and I bought a new jacket and riding pants, boots and gloves yesterday. I miss riding all year and I can't admit defeat to mother natures cold yet.
