Seems the age thread revealed we had other similarities.
I thought I was big at 6'4" and 275, but seems like I'm tiny compared to some.
I'm comfortable on this bike - got plenty of leg room with highway pegs and the seat is the proper size for my seat.
So, what height/weight are you?

5' 7", 160LBS. I guess that puts me at second smallest. I have not quite gotten used to the bigger bike yet. My previous bike is a 2000 Vulcan 750. I am preparing to sell it and got on it for the first time in about 6 months. Boy that thing felt small, but very easy to maneuver.
I have to hand it to Kawasaki the 750 is a very sweet running bike. It has a lot more get up and go than the 1500, at least it feels like it does, and the engine just purrs. 52 mpg on regular gas, too. Can't beat that. It is a shame its not as good looking as the Nomad, and I get tired on it after about 45 mins.
I think I will keep my Nomad.

OK, I see that most of us are not light weights here. I think I read somewhere that the max load on a 1600 Nomad is 408 lbs. I'm 6'4" 275 Lbs. so that leaves 133 lbs. Now if I put fuel in the tank, some clothes in the bags, then if I take a rider she had better be a light weight or we are way over the load limits. Am I right? Also, I've seen pictures with 2 up and a small trailer behind the bike. Can the Nomad handle that weight well or is it really stressing the bike.

That was bound to come up. 408 lbs is not all that much but is over half the weight of the bike. I'm sure some will claim that there is a large margin built in and is only given as a limit to protect manufacture liability. I've also heard warnings that safety and controllability start to gown downhill above that limit. I'm most concerned about the front to rear distribution and the weight ratings of the tires.

That is a valid concern. Would be interested to hear what some of the guys pulling trailers experience with the weight. Just wonder how far you can go over the 408 before we get into trouble. Like I said with 2 up and loaded for a trip I think most of us would be over the limits. I know I would be. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

...Just wonder how far you can go over the 408 before we get into trouble. Like I said with 2 up and loaded for a trip I think most of us would be over the limits....
With my wife, our gear, and full luggage plus a tour pack & tools, I'm pretty sure we top that 408 lbs by over 100 lbs. if you include gas, oil, & coolant in the equation.(Though I'm not sure if it's proper to do so.) But there are couples riding Nomads that are MUCH heavier than we are and seem to do fine. Hell, I know one guy who is 6'-4" & over 400 lbs nekkid, and he rides a 1600 with tour pack & full luggage. He did buy a custom seat though... ;)
I think the key here is to keep the tires pumped up to 40~42 psi, keep the shocks pumped up to 40~42 psi, and keep your speeds moderate when heavily loaded as both suspension and brakes will have to work harder. If you do that, I think 1400 lbs GVW is totally doable on a Nomad.
I have not towed a trailer with a Nomad, (well I did tow Mac's for about two blocks once just to feel it out...) but speed moderation is the most important factor when towing, because you gotta be able to stop and manuver the thing. In that same vein, make sure total weight isn't excessive and your tongue weight is 10% of the total loaded trailer weight.
As for the frame, wheels, axles, etc. These bikes are really stout IMO, and you're not going to crack or bend anything in normal riding as long as all the bolts are tight and you keep your speed down so you don't allow the shocks or forks to bottom out on bumps. I've heard of frames cracking when really beefy couples have ridden a Harley over poor roads, but I've never heard of a Nomad cracking a frame unless it hit something hard. Like the back end of a truck or a really deep pot hole.
One rather stout friend did knock the bottom out of his crankcase when riding two up on a rough road and into a pot hole so deep he struck the oil drain plug on a rock. That was an expensive mistake.
