Well, looks like they will still carry the 1600 Nomad, but have eliminated the 1500.
The 1700 Nomad is listed under touring, while the 1600 is listed under cruiser. Hmmm.

That's not what I heard from my dealer. He said they are killing the 1600 and 1500 engines all together.

It's confusing on the web site. I thought the same thing until someone pointed out the 1600 was listed as 2008 models and the 1700 as 2009 models.
1600 will be discontinued in '09. Dealers will probably still have some left over new 1600's from '07 and '08 but the '09 nomad will be a 1700.

I was talking to my dealer last Saturday about the Nomad and he also said that 08 is the last model year for it.

Just think how cheap you will be able to pick up a beautiful 1600 brand new. In a few months they will be itching to make room for the 09's.

It could be that the leftover 08's will go fast as people that dont like the new 1700's snap them up. I dont like the new Nomad much but a new bike is not on the cards for me anyway.

That is why I bought my 2008 a year earlier than I had planned. I didn't like the 2009, and I only found one ultra fast (black and red) here in Birmingham. I don't regret buying in octorber near the end of the season, sweet bike.

Only four model years for our trusty 1600, humm :-/

my dealer thought they will keep the 1500 classic as a low
cost full size cruiser costing 10 grand.

So, does that make them classics? Or, does that make us a dying breed?

I'll be the first to second that, I don't regret buying at the end of the year either, I probley would have gotten a better deal next year. Though maybe not the super ultra fast 2007 red and titanium ;)

Landman has the right idea. The 1500 Classic can be a cheap 'tourer' with windshield & soft bags. Or, it can be a great solo bike as well. It can be altered to a neat custom WITHOUT spending $$$$$$$$$ on crazy billet thingys.
I always thought the 1500 Classic was a steal.

so being a newbie to this nomadness. why would you think after only 4 years they would scrap the bike? Has anyone heard any complaints on the 1600 vs the 1500? As I have been mentioning, I'm looking for a new 08. have 2 black and reds within 45 minutes.. my home sale was suppose to be done feb 3rd, but the &%#*! realtors with a combined 45 years experience can't remember to get papers filed on time. soooo.. hopefully by the 10th I can get a wad of cash in hand and see what kind of deals I can pull. So far from what I have read here no one has talked any trash of the 1600 that I have seen so far...

No problems with the 07 and I plan on keeping her a long time.

Unfortunately, the 1600 Nomad was an "oddball". It's a great bike, but there was never a lot of aftermarket bling available for it. I think Kaw just felt it was time to redesign the Nomad. The model has been around for 10 years.

The entire Vulcan 1500/1600 line is going by the wayside. Kawasaki has produced the 1500 for over 10 years and the line has run its' ecconomic limit. Even Volkswagen eventually pulled the plug on the Bug.
The Mother Company has desisgned a new line of cruzers all based on the new 1700 motor. It makes no sence to keep the 1500/1600 line in production, the need to space to produce the new bikes. Look at the new line up, 1700, 1700 Classic, 1700 Nomad and 1700 Venture. They are, bike for bike, replacements. Like the VN900 has replaced the 800 and 750.
Ladies and Genhtlemen, MawKaw gives you the new Vulcans. Personally, I'm not overly impressed with them but I wish them well.
Just hope that they don't expect the VN2000 riders to flock to the 1700s. It's goes up well against the biggest Hondas and Yamerjammers.

I talked to two dealers here in oregon and they said they didnt even place a order for the 2009 voyager or the nomad. They said they were to high of a price tag and they didnt think they would sell. They said the bikes that were selling were $8000.00 and under.

British Columbia is probably one of the last stops on the "International Motorcycle Show" so my view points of the new Nomad and Voyager have been said in "our forum" more than a few times already, but the quality and cosmetics of the 2009 sucks in my opinion. I would think you're going to see sales drop, big time. I think Kawi is going to be sorry they ever changed the Nomad styling . ....but I'll wait and see about the 1600 to 1700 motor. If I was buying today and there were no '08's or older Nomads around, I'd go back to the Yamaha Venture. Hasn't changed much and beats the Voyager hands down in quality in my opinion. I'm real glad that I bought the '06 Nomad in '07. Got a great bike at a great price.
Oh and wolfman.... nice to see you back for a visit. Hope life is good for you these days.

My dealer told me that June would probably be the earliest he would get a new one and that most likely it would be closer to September and that it would probably be a '10 model. They may not even make an '09 model. The new Nomad is just a bike on paper and the ones you see at bike shows are probably just prototypes. Just my two cents worth.

After a while, the bike magazine just complain about how the design needs an overhaul or seems "tired". I think they just want something new to write about. I like the looks of our bikes and think that the design is classic and timeless, but what do I know, I'm just a consumer.

Yeah I love our bikes. I think the styling is the best of the ones out there. I am very happy, though it would be nice if they came out with a 1700 Meanie. I like the MS, it was a sweet bike. That said my Nomad is a wonderful bike, but having been a belt guy before, I like the idea of th belt. It gives you options that a shaft can't.
