Spent all day Thursday and some of Friday putting new toys on the Nomad. Got a set of Roadhouse Dooleys and a Cobra light bar and a Magellan GPS. The GPS was really fast and easy mainly because I ordered a RAM mount system for it. The light bar wasn't too bad, but I hooked the trigger side of the relay to the ground instead of the hot side of the running lights which caused a little re-routing but no major deal.

Now the install of the Dooleys was, and still is a different matter. They are tough trying to get them exactly the same on both sides.

Originally, the Dooleys came with smooth head pipe shields, but I really wanted the classic look, and Roadhouse was great to work. They swapped me out the parts--no problem.

I still have to go back and do some final adjusting because the left pipe at the tip is about 3/8" lower than the right side. It will probably take about another 1/2 hour or so, but right now I'm tired of working on her and need to get other things done around the house before winter.
As for the sound of the Dooleys, it really gives you that low rumble associated with large bore engines. I can still hear all the clanking sounds of the engine when cruising or puttsing, but when you crack that throttle hard, she really sings (set off a car alarm yesterday when I was getting on it for the first time) and just had to laugh. Well, the mods for this season are done, but wondering what is in store for next season?

Hey Caddman, did the cadillac tips come with them? I was told they didn't do them for the dooleys when I bought mine? I have the slash cuts, but yours look neat!
A bad day puttin bling on the bike is better than a good day at work? Or something like that. Nice looking pipes. Kinda like the retro thing.

I really like the look of those pipes. The look of the headpipe shields is great!
Bought my '06 Nomad used and it came with Cobra slash-cut pipes. They have a good sound albeit loud when you crank it up.
If I ever get a little bit ahead, I would like to change the pipes to something like yours or shark fin tips.
Nice work. Enjoy!

Nice looking bike. Just took my first extended trip with my new Nomad with my wife on back (roughly 125 miles) and it was great, but I think the Cobra light bar might be in my future as the end of the trip was at night. I am loving my Nomad. Yours looks great and I will be doing the GPS as well.

Thanks so much for all the complements on the bike, I think I'm really close to being done with the add ons.
trevwales, those tips are available from their website, they did come with the pipes, but the shields didn't. They sell for $99.
Hey hmsregalnadness, it was more fun than working, but then again I need to know how you got your wife to clean your bike. My wife will only ride, and I don't clean her bike, it would never get cleaned.
radco, I to do like the sexy womans voice in the GPS.
My wife really likes the sound of them. We did about 20 miles yesterday 50 degree weather just to get a good listen. I don't think the pipes are loud unless you really crank on them, but it's that low low rumble that makes them for me, they really block out any high frequency sounds. I'm somewhat deaf though but my wife didn't complain and she use to with my HD and the screaming eagle slip ons. We both got a great chuckle when we'd drive by a car with an alarm, and we'd set if off, pretty funny.
By the way the re-leveling took about 5 minutes, but I think I'm going to have to add star washers to the bolts to help keep them from sliding.

It does look sharp. I like the Roadhouse dooleys. The light bar also adds "the classic look". http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Looks good Caddman! I think you just motivated me to ask Santa for a Ram mount to use with my my GPS (Garmin Nuvi).
The big hurdle will be installing a cigareete lighter to plug into. I am gun shy when it comes to messing with bike wiring. Working in tight spaces and messing with a bike that runs great is outside my comfort and patience zone.
How far are you from Elkhart?

It's actually not that difficult to do.
Remove the two screws that hold the headlight in the nacell, you should see two wires there for accessories. I wired mine directly off one of those leads, and used the bottom mount screw as a ground. Fed the wires through the back of the nacell and up to the windshield mounts. Works like a champ.

Looks realy good!!! What was the idea of tuning the tips in their sides? Kinda reminds me of the old Chevy tail pipe tips! I got them on my Drifter.

I live about 70 miles from Elkart.
Either I had to rotate them to the side, which Roadhouse conveniently sets a tap hole to do, or ditch the lower chrome bag guards. I opted to keep the bag guards. I really wanted the tips to be vertical.
The lighter is very easy, about a 10 minute deal. Hot lead is in the head light bucket and I just put the ground on one of the lower bolts in the bottom of the head light bucket.

Taranis, how do you wire the GPS to the leads? What kind of connection? I can't seem to find anything that connects well with the Kawasaki lead.

Taranis,
That sounds simple enough...I will somehow turn it in to an all day project and several trips to the parts store. Kind of like my wife when she is going to pick up just one thing at the mall http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif
Very nice, caddmann11....veeery nice!

I just got a tom tom and am dreading doing the lighter mod. I hate wiring. Also, had about 15 hours of night riding on the ES trip, and realy want a light bar. GRRR< so much work, no wonder i dont get enough ride time.
I installed RH Dooleys three years ago ... Love them. The heat shield will turn a kind of goldish hue ... Rather cool really. Here is a pic ... I think the colour change can be seen.
