Been wanting a lift for the bike as it would be better having it up where I don't need to bend over or be on my knees (prayed enough) to do work on the scooters. Good friend wanted my 5x8 tilt bed trailer so we made a swap deal. Both are happy ! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

I have an air over hydrolic, It is same as the harbour one but a differant distributor, its black instead of red. Got it used, like new, off craigslist last year, paid $200, sells new for about $400. Had my old goldwing on it raised up for about 2 months while I gathered the ambition to rebuld the carbs, now that its done the Nomad is next for a swingarm lub, new tires and a tree lube.
I just park it in front of my toolbox when not in use, it allows me to see all the junk in the top bin of the box.

I want to build a new (second) garage, and that is going to be one of my top priority tools to get.

That is where this one was bought originally ( Harbour freight). This will be a great addition to the work shop for sure.

After spending two days crawling around the bike putting on goodies, I know I'd really like to have that kind of lift. My hips and knees are killing me from all the ups and downs and laying on my side trying to get things right.

I started thinking about it the last time I changed the oil in both of my bikes. When I changed the exhaust on my Nomad,I was wishing I hadn't been so tight and went ahead and bought one.
I'll be getting one when I get back home.

I have one I bought from Harbor Freight it is air over hyd. and it works great I have had it for about 3 years now and have raised my Goldwing and my Nomad up many times with no trouble. You talk about it being easy to work on but it also makes cleaning and waxing much easier. One problem is when you pull your bike up on the rack then you have to get off and hold the bike until you get it strapped down, to solve this problem I put a Condor bike cradle on the lift just ride on the lift and get off the cradle will hold it. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

here is a picture of my Nomad on the lift this was taken before I installed the condor cradle, notice the plate welded to the lift that was so I could put the kickstand down on my Goldwing it didn't work for the Nomad.

Well have the lift in the shop now and have to say this will sure be nice to lift the bike.
I have to add a plate for the kick stand as if you were to put the bike on alone you would be hard pressed to get it secured. May add a wing to both sides to put me feet once I drive the bike on.
Maybe someone will come along with a idea of what I'm referring too..

Hey Chuckster, does the lift have multiple height lock points or is it all or nothing?
chuckster131

It does have two lock points, but the pics I took are of it in the highest position.
This is the foot operated pump lift, but even at that it goes right easy.

Chuckster you can buy the sides from Harbor freight, but welding anything on or the side panels make it harder to work on your bike. The condor cradle I mentioned before in this thread works the best, and also I drilled holes in the platform so I could put my straps in them and use the front and rear crash bars to strap it down. If you are going to jack the front or rear up you will need to loosen the straps and it is much easier if they are up in the air with your bike.

I usually walk along side the bike and clutch it up under its own power and guide it into the vise, I can then hold it up with one hand and tighten the vise with the other. then tie it down.

I have one of these.

When I put the bike on the lift I have tried riding it up on the lift, walking it up alongside slipping the clutch, and pushing it up with a little help from anyone around at the time (quite easy). I must admit I prefer to push it up, just in case I fell over or had some other nasty accident while the engine was running, could cause a whole lot of problems. Once the bike is on the lift I just locate the front wheel in the wheel vice and close it. The bike is stable just in the vice, but I also use ratchet straps as an additional safety measure. I have a drop out panel at the rear to lower the rear wheel thru and use some support under the frame/engine when removing the rear wheel. By using the vice/straps/supports in various combinations it is possible to do anything on the bike while it is rock steady up on the lift. On my lift it is possible to buy several different types of extensions for things like tool storage, adding width for a quad bike etc but anything added to the sides just gets in the way really and is best forgotten. I can use the lift in various hight settings but it is usually at its highest setting. I only wish I had one years ago, its great. Providing you have the space and can spend a bit more, there is no better. I was always very concerned when jacking the bike with the small one that fits under the engine/frame, the bike was never stable and I was constantly worried it was going to fall, it frightened me to death, I had visions of the whole thing crashing to the floor some time. Plus when working on the bike, as I removed parts, the center of gravity would change and the balance point, making the set up even more precarious. I now have no worries and feel very confident with the bike secure on the table. You will be very glad of your purchase.

Thanks for the info, as now I see'em. Don't know abot the $200.00 tag for them. I thinking of a plate that I could bolt on where the kick stand would be, then I could get off the bike and proceed to hook up the tie down straps.
