I had a rough time installing my Mustang seat on my Nomad, for two reasons.
Problem 1: Mustang didn't leave much access for the mounting bolt on either the touring seat or the pillion. A suggestion was made to use a socket head bolt instead of the OEM hex-head bolt. This makes it much easier. Just get a socket head or button head bolt 6mm x 12 in SS or chrome, with a thread pitch of 1 and it makes the installation a lot smoother.
Problem 2: It was difficult to slide the pillion seat forward far enough to line up the mounting bracket with the captive nut in the rear fender. I found that the "receiver" mounted on the fender directly behind the touring seat has a raised lip on the rearward edge. This makes it much thicker, and there isn't much of a gap between the pillion mounting tab and the seat pan/cover fabric. Since I pulled my seats today to install a tank bib, I removed the pillion seat "receiver" and turned it around, so the raised edge was away from the pillion seat. Guess what? The seat slid into place slicker than, well...snot. Just remove the two bolts attaching the receiver to the fender, rotate it 180 degrees and reattach.
I should take days off from work more often. I seldom think this much in one day.
