Didn't know if anyone would be interested, but I bought some saddlebag chaps custom made for the Nomad today off of ebay.

There's a couple in Arkansas that custom makes these chaps and in volleying emails with them today, I decided to create an "Accessories" page on the website and include them.

Feel free to take a look at http://www.kawanow.org and click on Nomad Accessories from the left menu bar.

I bought the ones without the studs and with pockets.

Hey Trip, I like the idea of the accessories page. I am looking for a drivers backrest that attaches without infringing on the passenger. One that the support comes up between the front and back seat. If you run across one please put it on the accessories page.

topcat,
The only riders backrest that I can find so far that meets those specifications is the Utopia backrest. I believe their website is at www.utpr.com (http://www.utpr.com)

I'm thinking about getting one later, but I'm still looking.

GH,
Haven't received them yet. I'll probably get them in a week or so. I understand that they are totally scratch resistant underneath. If you get studs installed, they add an extra layer to prevent any scratching. They also have metal rings sewn in on the bottom to fit on the bottom cylinders of your hard bags.

The way I look at it, if they do scratch my bags a little, it can't be worse than the scratches they're getting now.

Trip, I wouldn't trade my Utopia back rest for any available accessory. But then I still have the extras too. ;) I rode 950 miles in one day and I'm sure I could not have done it without that rest.

Yea, I went ahead and purchased a Utopia riders backrest too Wayne. I bought it Saturday and I should get it around the middle of August. After looking for a month or so, I couldn't find a better backrest than the Utopia, unless I bought a Mustang or corbin seat to go with it.

I had a Utopia on my Honda Magna and liked it very much.

Trip; I have to agree; I looked for some time, before getting my Utopia, and I am very happy with it.

Dosen't the utopia rest require you to come up "through" the passenger seat? To me this would cut down to much on the area the passenger has.
90% of my riding is 2-up. Do you guys ride 2-up and if so what does your passenger say about the placement of the utopia?
Thanks for any response,Tim

yes, you do have to come up through the rear seat; right at the front edge. I looked around, and could not find any that didn't do that; even the mustang seat/backrest combo is that way.

Trip; do you know if they make these saddlebag chaps to fit with the top racks? I like my racks, and don't want to just cut holes in the new leather to install these.

dragon57,
I would imagine you will have to cut holes in the new leather....but, you can email them and ask. Delinda can tell you at phcustoms@hotmail.com

FYI; I talked to Delinda, and she said they will sew on the pockets in the front area, (inside crash bar), if anyone wants them there. I have the chrome racks on top of bags, so I can't use the pockets up top. I would imagine they would do them on the rear, as well....

I got the saddlebag chaps in yesterday from PH Customs. But, Ruby Earl is in the shop getting new rubber, a radiator coolant change, final gear oil change and inspection.

Should have her back tomorrow and I'll slip the chaps on and take a pic.

Yeah, I was wondering how they turned out too! Do they fit real tight so they won't vibrate off and get caught in the rear wheel? http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

Haven't gotten Ruby Earl back from the shop. Getting front and rear tires put on as well as rear oil change, new coolant and inspection. They didn't have her ready Saturday and they're closed Sunday and Monday. Should get her back tomorrow (Tuesday). I'll slip them on tomorrow evening and get a pic on here for you guys. Just from first glance, I'd say they're very nice chaps.

I am looking forward to seeing them and to here how they hold up after you get some ride time on them. I hope they work out cause I like the idea of having some small item storage on the outside of the bags.

Yeah....Jefe frequents here more than he wants anyone to know. I think he saw it coming. LOL. I laughed when I read it.

BTW, yes, I do plan on breaking the vest in on the Abilene trip. I'll try and get some pics of it when I take the saddlebag chap pics.

Trip, I am just to cheap to let someone change the oil and stuff but I understand if the bikes going to be there let them do it.

I know of a few folks who also break down there own tires and us an old bubble tire balancer, NOT me I do not even take them off the bike I let them do it.

GH, To many years being a wrench the hands just do not work like they used to, that is why I became a Training Device Engineer.
That being said I still work on my cars and bike to some extent. I no longer rebuild transmissions and engines just to hard on the hands.

I go to the shop to have my tire pressure checked lol Everything I touch......... breaks.

<<<Your suppose to be a grease monkey like the rest of us!!! LOL >>>

Well, call me a wimp if you want...you won't hurt my feelings.

Here's the whole story:
The first week in October, I'm leaving with two other guys to ride to Kanab, Utah and back (3500 miles). My Metzlers probably would have made it, but I didn't want to take any chances having to get new tires on the road, so I had new front and back Metz's put on and kept the old ones.

When this new set wears out, I'll have the old set put back on and get a little more mileage out of them. My bike has just over 20,000 miles on it, so while it was in the shop, I asked them to change the radiator coolant and rear gear oil. BTW, you guys might not be skeered of taking your tank off, but I am. That's what you have to do to change out the coolant.

I have a motorcycle shop here in Tyler, TX (not a stealer) called Scooter Pete's that has some excellent mechanics. When it was all done, I paid 400.00 for the front and rear tires, mounted and balanced and 165.00 to have the fluids changed.

And, believe it or not, I'm not THAT much of a wimp...I do my own oil and filter change. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

LOL Trip we are just ribbing ya. I have had that tank of before and it has a lot of crap attached to it.

Question did you ever have a vibration from your front tire (ME 880) when you went over 85mph?

Mine has developed one it used to be at 100mph but now is at 85mph I am thinking it is getting out of balance.

LOL....I love making you guys feel guilty....LOL.

I've never had a tire out of balance on a bike. On a cage yes....but not on a bike. I'd say you need to get your front wheel rebalanced bluetongue.

Got the bike back today and was able to get the saddlechaps on this evening. Here are some pics. I must say I'm rather impressed with the quaility. They go on really snug and seem to naturally adhere and stay on the bag. But, I haven't ridden anywhere yet. Time will tell. I'd give 'em a thumbs up.

The saddlebag chaps look good though.

OK Trip. All forgiven BUT.........We don't ever want to see pics of your bike filthy like that again!

Anybody ever order any custom leather items from a company called Chillowee?? they make way cool leather items from buffalo hide anyway you wish it to be done. Tank bras, kickstand covers, floorboard fronge, etc, No Nomad stuff but i think the 1600 classic tank bra would fit ours?

Thanks Trip for turning me on to those saddle bag chaps. Delinda is great to work with. I got the ones with the studs but no pockets. The craftsmanship is great as well as the fit. Most people up here in the interior of Alaska haven't seen anything like them, so right now its kind of a novelty even at the Kawasaki shop.
