I have posted on this board before asking about the Nomad compared to my 06 900 LT. Great thoughts and advice. Thank you. Well I put my 900 LT up for sale and it went right away! The Nomad was to be my next motorcycle but I read here about possible changes and even discontinuing this model. This had me worried. I saw the 09 lineup today on the USA site and the 1700 Nomad seems to have all the right things added to a great bike. So here are my latest questions. The write up by Kawi says the distance from the seat to the bars has been reduced. Is this in comparison the the 1600 or the 2000? Will this be a problem? I know it is guessing right now.
I did purchase my 900 in its first year and had no problems to work out. The International Bike Show comes to Toronto in December so I am looking forward to sitting on 1700. This could well by my bike for the spring if the incentives are right. Has anyone had problems in the first year that the Nomad went to a 1600?
Cheers

I have had only one problem with my '05, and that is the steering stem wasn't greased, and now I'm redoing that. Other than that, couldn't ask for a better bike.
On your other question about the reduced distance from the rider to the bars, It is comparing it to the 1600.

Welcome...if have not previously said. I have had not problems with my '05. If you get the '09 we want pics and your rider observations! Happy shopping!

Hey CDN, I have a 1500, so I'm no help, but I hope that you enjoy the hunt of trying to find the next bike. Stop back by and tell us what you got, eh?

It appeared to me the tank is shorter on the 1700 much like the 1500 as opposed to being more stretched like the 1600. Harley tanks are shorter so therefore the bike feels more cramped than my 1600. Being tall I like having the option to put risers on to make the bike fit me. If it starts out small you can't make it any bigger.

That's a good idea waiting for the bike show, then you can try them all. With the new bikes out,
dealers will be trying to sell their 07,08's and you might pick up a great deal then. Has anyone heard what the MSRP will be on these new models?

The 1600 and 1500 were very similar engines. The 1700 looks like a completely new thing.

Good advice from beezer. I am 5'11" so I don't think I will need to worry about it being too small. The man riding in the picture on the Kawi site does look a little cramped though. The 07 and 08 have sold out around Toronto. I asked the local dealer if he could get an 08 Nomad from another dealer but he said the incentives have come off. In Canada the Nomad was selling for around $3500 - $4000 more than in the US. When the Cdn dollar came up to par with the US dollar, the major bike manufacturers offered incentives such as a greatly reduced price if you bought in a certain time period. There was/is a major concern that some dealers are losing business to people who cross the border to buy to save a lot of money.

CD, welcome from Nebraska. I have a tad over 52,000 on my 05.Only problem I've had was an atmospheric air pressure sensor failed. Bike still ran though. The one thing I think I'd really like about the new one is the cruise control.
