I know...I know....It's normal.I've read it ...Googled It...Read Gadjets site.....Searched it.Everyone says it's normal. Many discriptions from "jack Hammer" .. "Crunching Marbles".. "Gravel in Crankcase".... "Tapping"..."Hammering".Does anyone have a sound recording of the engine noise their Nomad makes while under acceleration. Not when at cruising speed...but when twisting the throttle and getting up to speed. My bike is mostly stock.Have K&N Filter..Extra Holes Drilled in Filter Housing for A little extra air.Cobra Fuel Processor to eliminate engine ping. ( 1.5-2.5-0)Stock Exaust ( Have not done a baffelectomy yet)It's not the idle soliniods.....Sounds more like valve sticking or something. No other Nomads owners I know in my area to compare with.A sound track of other Nomads making the same noises would be SO comforting.By the way...9,000 plus miles....Runs strong...Runs Great.Just noisy....and not sure about the noise.

I'm with ya Refugio. The "gravel in the crankcase" and "crunching marbles" descriptions are pretty accurate for Lucille's throttle-up lyrics. While these sounds werent fully captured on the vid footage I got at the Central Rally; I captured a whining tone that I dont hear audibly. I didnt have much success putting these vid files into a postable format, but I have them on CD and I'd be happy to send to you. PM a snail mail address and they are on their way.

This has my bike idling then pulling away to do some parking lot practice. Not really what you are after, but might help.

Completely stock, intake and exhaust.

Yeah Dan.....That's not exactly what I'm looking for. I think I have watched it before and it was helpful in confirming the "John Deer Tractor" sound at idle and at slow parking lot speed.
Sounds just like my bike.
However, Thankyou very much Dan

Thanks LW and Dan.
I guess I'll just keep the music turned up loud...That's the way I like it anyway.
With the music turned up....I can't hear the engine too well...but I can feel the power. It feels good.....Love this bike.

Hey REF,

Try this video (double click on it) of a ride I took last fall...at that time, my bike have the baggers on and no mods at all to the intake.....listen "below" the rumble and wind and you can hear the sounds of the engine.....hope this helps...don't get dizzy.

Todd
I used earphones to listen to your video.
Your baggers sound really good...and that's what I could mostly hear.
It was hard for me to hear the working mechanics of the engine in the back ground due to the pipes.
However....I did not hear what I was looking for....I'm going to listen again.
Thanks

OK...I listened again (no earphones)...
Still ....your pipes seem to overcome the engine noise I'm looking for....Maybe it sounds different when your sitting right over it verses a recording.

Your bike really does sound AWESOME with those baggers.

Thanks, I like em..not too loud and annoying but you know I am there.

I guess I can pick it up cause I know what it sounds like in real life LOL.......its kind of a "sewing machine" ticking....it increases and decreases with the throttle. I dont get the slow speed ticking at all now that I have disconnected the idle control solenoids and opened up the intake.

I followed Todd all the way to West Virginia and I must say, the Baggers were not annoying to deal with. Nice sound. Todd, I couldn't hear the ticking sound either over the Baggers.
