Horn mounting question

I'm trying to figure out the best place to mount my Stebel horn where it will be hidden much as possible. (Remember, mine is a 1500) Have any of you separated the compressor from the horn (like on gadgit's page)? I already have the tank off (which doesn't give much extra room for access). I think the horn may fit under the factory horn location and behind the ignition switch and fast idle cable but it will be close. Scoot had a good mounting location but had to move the ignition switch and cable. I wanted to leave them in stock location if possible. I'm leaning more toward separating the pieces which would make more room for mounting. Are there any tricks to getting it apart without breaking something?

I no longer have a 1500, but I did. I just wonder if you could get it to fit inside the left triple tree where there is a pretty good size empty nothing. On my 1500 I made a switch pannel and had relays behind it. so I know there is some room there. I don't have this horn, so am not sure how big it really is.

I have a 1500 and and seperated the horns from the compressor and mounted the horns above the front fender on the top of the crash bar. Just make sure it's out of the way when your suspension is fully compressed, ot it could possibly scratch your fender. Mine is fine.
I mounted the compressor in front of the front jug. I did mount it sideways, although most people will say that will cause the compressor to fail due to lubrication problems. I believe Stebel even warns against this, although there was no such warning when I bought mine way back. Mine has been that way for 5 years, had a lot of use, and is still pumping away.

Also, I used 5/15" black fuel hose instead of clear plastic hose to connect the two. I think the plastic hose sticks out and looks cheap. The black hose is more discreet in my opinion. I want it to be heard, but not seen.

I just knew it would fit in a hole between the radiator and the front cylinder. I even took the radiator loose and tried but it's not quite enough room. I wound up making a bracket where I can mount it just under the fast idle cable. About half of it sticks out but it doesn't look bad.

have you tried where the stock horn sits? thats where i mounted mine but mine is a 1600?

Yes but the 1500 is different. The ignition switch and the high idle knob are right in the way. I finally made a custom bracket that bolts to the engine mount and top fan brace. The horn bolted to that bracket. It's right under my high idle knob and doesn't stick out very far. Worked out great and sure is LOUD! I'll try to post pictures of the bracket and how I mounted it tomorrow. Now I need to find a speedometer since mine must be broken.

I'll try to post pictures tomorrow. I removed gas tank and took the left horn off and bolted the relay to it. I connected the two existing horn wires to #85 and 86 (They reached the rely without modifying anything). I ran the hot wire for #87 under the gas tank along the frame to the battery and used a 20 amp fuse holder next to the battery. #30 terminal of the relay connected to the positive terminal of the horn and I used a short wire to connect the horn negative side to a bolt on my mounting bracket. I used all black wire so it doesn't show (black bike) but it's really hidden and you won't see it anyway. Worked great and man is it loud! (I left the right horn hooked up but you don't hear it.)
