Just a thought but could you take the sissy bar to a machine shop and get them to { for lack of a better word} "sand out" the "chewed up" area, and then re-chrome the whole thing?

Well, I don't believe the '02 Nomad came with a stock backrest. This must be an add-on, like a Fire & Steel. Maybe posting a picture of the backrest might help someone identify it and maybe someone has one available. You could also check eBay for someone who might be selling one. You might even post a WTB message on the VROC board.

2005 was the 1st year they came with a backrest I believe.

Post a picture if you would. I have a backrest that came with my bike (an '04) that I replaced. It is in good shape; but I could not "bust-loose" the nuts holding it together so I could add a rack. Someone with the right tools could probably do so. Otherwise; in perfect condition.

Anyway; post a pic so I can see if it looks close enough.

Ok, I got it attatched! There is a Kawasaki emblem in the center of the back of the sissybar back pad.. the pad could be replaced also as it it torn and sort of repaired at the top..but the upside down "U" part of the sissy bar is what I am trying to replace for sure...it is gound off fairly deep in three places on the top and I doubt it can be smoothed over and rechromed and have it look ok..

Traveler, Do you need some help getting those pics on the forum? (I think I've welcomed both of you to the site, but if not, welcome and we're glad you're here.) Did you check out the "For the Newbies" thread (sounds like you have)?

If anyone has the rack that goes on the back of that sissy bar, I'd be interested. I have the same sissy bar on my '03, but really need to add the rack on the back.
