I now have about 55,500 on the old Nomad and now the speedometer floats about 10mph on rough roads. It's steady on smooth roads (most around here are rough). Normally, it jumps from 50-60 or 60-70mph. Smooth roads seems to be accurate. Any idea on what could cause this?

Is your speedometer driven off the front wheel? If so, may be a worn or dry cable assembly.

Yes off the front.

If it's a mechanical speedometer drive, your cable may be gummed up.

Rough roads sounds like a likely cause http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
Shoot a little speedometer cable lub in there and should be fine. They used to sell that stuff at parts stores but is probably starting to disappear. I believe it is a graphite-based lub
