View Full Version : I seem to be running a little hot

I've only had the chance to ride my "new" '06 1600 Classic a few times since buying it. It came with 5500 miles on the odometer and V&H Big Shots as the only change from stock. Those were kind of loud so I tried to tame it a little with Quiet Baffles. I'm not familiar with the bike's characteristics but it seems as though it is running a little hot. The pipes still crackle and ping for a few minutes when I shut it down after a ride. Is this normal? If not what should I be checking?

Cheers!

I've had my Nomad for not quite a year and have put nearly 17,000 miles on it. My pipes tick and pop when they get hot. It's normal as they cool down.

Normal. When it starts to get a little warm you should hear the fan come on. Most only do that in warm weather at very low speeds. They do throw off a lot of heat though.

I'm glad to hear that this is normal. I just moved up from a Suzuki C50 and this is my first experience with the Vulcan 1600. The weather has been pretty warm here so I guess that doesn't help either. Still I should carefully go over the bike for all the general maintanance, fluid changes and bolt tightening before to many miles. Thanks for the response.

Cheers!

Mine too. Nothing to worry about.

My V & H baggers ping and tick when I shut off the bike too.

If the hair on the inside of your thighs starts to curl up, it's running too hot. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

(OK, seriously, there's a "hot" light on the gage cluster. It'll come on if it's too hot.)

Bebop - what the other said! I was wondering about that the first few times too, being that the C50 was a lot quieter after shut-down... I think it's just the bike trying to arrest the brute power when turned off http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Thanks for all the responses. The more I visit the forum the more impressed I become. Not only is this an outstanding place to learn but folks here are willing to take time out to subdue the concerns of a newbe on something that might be considered a minor issue. I'm sure to have many questions in the future and I appreciate the patience and helpful spirit of everyone here.

Cheers!

This man is speaking from experience. He has to be slapped more often than most people on this site http://s2.images.proboards.com/lipsrsealed.gif
He does give great advice once he is brought back on track. :)

I traded an 04 1600 Classic in on my 06 Nomad and one of the first things I noticed is that it ran hotter than my Classic. Never been a problem, just one of those things. The pipes pinging and popping is normal. Even a new set of pipes on car or truck will do that.
Ride safe,
Dano

I think some of the people in here like to get off track just so that they can get slapped! Now remember class KawaNOW is a Non-Obfuscatious Website!
