Anyone have a portable XM or Sirrus setup on their bike and that can come off and be played indoors or walking around?? I see Pioneer has one called the Inno($200) looks nice but no bike mount. Do you buy the ram mount seperate on these radios?? Info would be appreciated on what one is best, etc.... Thx

I have seriously considered getting one of these because I love my XM in the cars.

Inno or Helix (samsung) are virtually the same radio....Have not used on the bike but know several folks that own them and have been looking into doing the same thing Doc. The reception on the open road seems to be pretty good...probably will get some drops on country roads lined with trees. (My friends get a few drops when running/jogging etc around thick cover but these units will tolerate some minor drops as they have a sort of built in skip protected). They make headphones with an antenna in them that wrap over the top of your head that improve the reception...obviously those wont work with a helmet.

You can listen to recorded programing (just like an mp3) with it in your pocket, etc.... but not live xm unless it is out "seeing" the sky.

You will have to buy a mount or fabricate one as the unit needs to have a nice constant clear view of the sky to get reception.....most I have seen have been mounted on handlebars. Then you just listen to with earplugs similar to an mp3....or you can rig up an amp and speaker set up similar to all the others that have been mentioned on other threads...or go buy a quadzilla http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Hope this helps a little

I started out with a Sirius XTR-1 Jockey( I think was the name) and mounted the antenna on the rear fender. unfortunately, reception was spotty and became unacceptable if you put anything on the luggage rack. I finally broke down and installed the XM antenna along with the Streetpilot 2820 and reception has been uninterupted since. I used the RAM mount for the radio head. Good luck, there are many combinations, but its tough to find the right one.

I have the XM Myfi. I bought it with the home package so I can listen to it on my bike or I got it set up to play to my outdoor speakers for around the pool.

I've added a few things, First I have a Hopnel tank bag

What I do is fold the top back and clip the Myfi to the front lip. I bought a small amp from radio shack that has 3 extra outputs. Thats so I can plug my sharp earphones and a extended plug for when my wife rides. The nice thing about the amp is it has a small switch that I can flip and the sound cuts down low enough that I can talk to the wife, or anyone else that riding with me, so I don't have to pull a ear plug out

I also when to this site and got a power supply so I can use my bike battery to power the myfi and I don't have to rely on the small battery that comes with it. http://www.myradiostore.com/

That site has anything you need for XM.

That blue cap comes off and she can plug into that.

I also got the shorter XM antenna so I don't have to deal with the 20ft. that comes with it.

What I do is run the headphone wire inside my vest so the wires do not fly all over the place and having the myfi on the tank it's easier to control all the wires and easy to change channels.

When I take the Myfi off the power wire and extra plug are able to tuck under the sides of the tank bag, so you only see 2 wires coming from under the seat.http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc312/brad4052/100_0870.jpg

So for a day on my bike this is how I set mine up.

Very good info Mr. Scoot: thanks so much for the help, where did you buy the main unit? is the reception continous or spotty? Whats your total cost in all the gear you think? Worth it? Thx again.

When I bought mine I got it on E-bay about $150. Reception is really good, only time it has a problem is there is alot of tree cover overhead or tunnels. I think I got about $20 in the small amp which is a good price it really helps. My most expensive thing is the headphones shure E3g got them for about $100 each, but wow the sound quality.

Here is a link for the best price I could find and it show all the accessories that go with it. check it out
