I'm just wondering what your posture is while riding.
Seems that posture has a lot to do with helmet buffeting and back and/or neck pain.
When I sit up straight (I'm 6'5"), I comfortable.
But on longer rides I tend to get tired and start to slouch which straightens my arms, due to the reach, and causes neck pain.
I also noticed when I'm not sitting straight, the bumps tend to be more severe.
Thanks for your input.
Scott
I voted for relaxed & chilled, but I don't have a back rest (yet :) )

My 3" risers from Chuckster and my backrest from Grasshopper cured my arm/neck pain. Now I sit straight (6'2")

Scott,
Get yourself a set of risers. There are a few different models out there, but I went with the Phatrisers II from Scootworks. Not only do they look great, but this will help tremendously and eliminate the "reach" that you speak of.
Also, in lieu of an actual backrest, I currently use the Kuryakyn Gran Tour Bag. You can see it in the photo in my signature line.
It is very solid and when not on the luggage rack for two-up riding, you can mount it on the passenger seat. It has a great backrest pad that comes with it.
That combination along with some good highway pegs and you should be "kicked back and chillin'" in no time!
There are a couple tricks that will help with the install of the PRII's. Drop me a note if you wish and I will be happy to share what I learned.

I slouch. I know I do it, and I know it's bad. That's why highway pegs, a Grasshopper backrest and risers are all on my Christmas list. Yes, I've started making it already--in fact, I started filling it out about two weeks after I got my bike!

I slouch, even though I make a concious effort not to, within a few minutes I slouching again. Its a bad habit I cant seem to break.
I added Chuckster's 3" risers and they definitely help the reach/neck strain issue. Kury Longhorn highway pegs help to stretch out my legs (lotta legs to stretch out). I have put a new seat/backrest on my Christmas list, and will have a Clearview windshield (the one on Paul's machine looked so good I couldn't resist) on before we head to Custer to round out the structural mods.
I use a Kuryaken Tombstone bag, I love it, It has a internal rigid frame and a adjustable pad to help you fit it to your individual bike.
Wow, this poll got a lot of votes in a hurry. Its been awhile since there was one and all the new membership is starting to show. Oh ya, I tend to sit straight up but slouch a little. 3" risers, 5'11".

5'9", use a Grasshopper backrest, Kuryakyn Highway pegs. The back rest and pegs really helped me a lot.
Sorry, don't really know what the risers are.

Blue Rebel,
Tell me I'm not being "Punked" by answering this.... ;).
"Risers" refer to handlebar risers. They raise your bars 2-3" and also bring them closer to you as well. This small amount makes a BIG difference. You no longer have to "reach" for your handlebars...they are right there. This helps you to sit more upright or laid back and not slouch forward. Much more comfy!
See the photo in my post above.... ::)

I use a combination of risers, Kury longhorn pegs, and Custom World backrest unless I'm riding through a lot of turns or bumps. Then I'm sitting upright for a little better control/feel.
Cheers!

I'm 5'11" 1/2. I have Lonnie's rectangular (not tombstone) backrest, Kuryakyn Iso-Pegs and Phat II 5X 2 1/2 risers. All these in combination have made an already very comfortable seat and riding position, almost perfect.
As for where to mount your highway pegs, get someone to hold the bike steady/upright, sit on it, and stretch your feet out towards the crash bars until you feel 'the comfortable spot,' then mount 'em there. LOL!

Set the bike straight up and stretch out your legs. Visuallize where you want the pegs. Put them on but don't tighten them down, and then see if they are about right. If they are, then tighten them, if not carefully adjust them being careful of the chrome.
Having a friend move the pegs as you sit on the bike helps. I helped my father-in-law mount his and it didn't take long. I hope that this helps.
I put a set of 3"risers on and multi positioned hwy pegs. I sometimes have a bit of a slouch but its comfy. I can posture myself many different ways with the pegs therefore I'm never really sore from one position....Bdog

My 3" risers from Chuckster and my backrest from Grasshopper cured my arm/neck pain. Now I sit straight (6'2")
+1 Just add hiway pegs to complete the ride.
This solved my problems. When I first bought the bike I did not realize how far forward I was reaching for the handle bars. After a 1/2 hour or so, my lower back & shoulders would start burning. Now I sit back like in a lounge chair. A Very relaxed ride with the risers, back rest & hiway pegs.......-Rich

It does take some time to get them just the way you want them because how you sit one time may not be the same way you ride. Getting friends to help makes a world of difference. At the Central rally, some of the guys helped me get mine set just right. Still love the way those highway pegs feel.

I don't know anything about this product, just found it trying to find a picture of someone laying back on a bike. Saw that they installed one on a Nomad. It appears to be a combination roll bag and backrest. The bag part looks like it is made of hard plastic. You'll have to check it out yourself. I may have found a new "gotta have".

The bag I have in my pic is the one I would highly reccomend.

Thanks. They are super comfy and adjustable. I designed them myself. Cost was about 40bucks and about 2 days in the shop. Bdog

It only took me almost 3 riding seasons and a little over a grand but I think I finally have the seat, riding position, and posture problem fixed. Now I have a seat with gel insert cut to my my liking, Bak up back rest, hiway pegs. phat 2 risers, and a sheep skin. I still may get the front of seat cut down lower than I have already. Seems like other riders want to stop before I'm even getting close to wanting to take a rest anymore. I finally got my recliner on 2 wheels.
