Ok, now I know not to schedule a ride during August or September. The last 3 times I have scheduled a week off to ride through the smokey mountains and up the Blueridge Parkway it got cancelled due to an incoming hurricane. I'm in the military and they told us today that all leave is cancelled next week unless the hurricane turns west or goes away which is not likely. Guess I'll be doing support instead of riding. Oh well, maybe June or July next year. http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

I'm sorry to hear your plans got kiboshed. That reminds me of my military days.
Rule number 1: Don't count on time off until you're actually on your way.
Rule number 2: If they can reach you, they can call you back.
Rule number 3: If they couldn't reach you, you better have a dang good excuse.

My buddy from New York just retired and we had this trip planned for over a year. My hotel at our starting point in Maggie Valley let me cancel without a penalty. Maybe you can stay there sometime. It's the Holiday Motel in Maggie Valley, NC. They like motorcycle riders. You can even park your bike on the porch outside your door.

I'll reschedule and make sure I go back to that hotel.

I'm not in the military but almost! We were informed today that our plant will continue to run this weekend processing onshore gas after the offshore wells shut in. If the storm is in "close proximity" we will shutdown the plant and evacuate to prevent putting anyone in "harm's way". Nearly all of the computer models have it coming right down our throats. To all in the possible path of Gustav, take care and God bless.

Ya'll keep your heads down and be safe. I will pray that it heads for Mexico instead or just decides to die.

Several of the Rangers in our office (Corps of Engineers) have been put on notice. My team is on standby.
Too bad we need the rain. Lakes still a few feet low.

I would ask how someone could misplace an Abrams Tank, but having spent 8 years in, I fully understand.
On the way back from Ft. Irwin the national training center, they had to swap trains around in Denver, somehow they left 1 of the flat cars with a frikkin tank on it behind. Only reason that Ft. Carson came off of lockdown was because some Lieutenant on Emergency leave saw it sitting there in the middle of the trainyard as he drove by. He called and let people know

What a wonderful life it is. Especially the military humor. Guess you have had to be there to appreciate what goes on.
