Are any of you guys familiar with Franks Leather Products?
http://www.franksleatherproducts.com/Flapspics/NewHome.htm

I ordered a tank bib that he says he should have ready to send out by the end of the week, but I am thinking about the fork mounted tool bag as well. Seems like top quality stuff, but I have no first hand knowledge of his work/shipping time/etc. as this is my first order from him.

Just wondering if you guys have purchased anything from him, particularly the fork mounted tool bag. If so...what are you thoughts? Thx.

He lives real close to where I'm at, so I'm planning on stopping by his shop as soon as the school year begins. He replied to an e-mail I sent and seemed very cordial.

I would agree his prices seem top heavy...was just wondering if the quality warrants the expense. Sometimes you get what you pay for...other times you just pay...

Cheers

Check out Chilhowee Leather (http://www.chilhowee.net/) in Grant's Pass, OR. I bought my tank bib through them.

Looks like the kind of stuff I like - please let us know your experience

My tank bib was $90 and made by a similar type individual - quality is far better than you see on 99% of bikes - no regrets about the extra $$$

I just received a tank bib with leg protection wrapping around the tank. It appears to be of good quality, but like I said, I just got it an hour ago and haven't installed it.

That's what it is. A tank bib and bra all in one piece. I asked Frank to combine the two, and he did a very nice job. I've got it on now, but I haven't cinched it down yet as my engine is still hot. I'll put a picture out in a day or two or three, or ,,,,, or.... well, real soon

After I described the design to Frank, I was just happy he was enthusiastic about building it. I have tried to get other Leather mfgr's to build this, but Frank is the only one to run with it. I'm impressed with the quality of materials and great fit, and he's a good business person too. Now others can enjoy his product.

I have been using franks leather bib for a few years now on the wife's VN 800 and yes you get what you pay for. Stood up well over time and doesn't have that mass produced look and he uses top quality leather. My 07 soloed Nomad is also fitted with Leather work from Frank consisting of tank bib,Fender bib,Mudguards and fork bag. If your using a Cobra lightbar the medium is to big and gently rubs the fender so i switched to the small size and put the original bag on the wifes 800. I went with studs, conchos, and side lacing and after 1 year on the nomad they look like the day they went on and stood up well to rain, sun ect and fit well with a mustang studded solo seat.
I would use Frank in the future as he really seems to be the type that will take on any special request and always keep me in the loop as to build time and shipping times.48 hours after he shipped them they arrived on my door step up here in canada and took less than 1 hour to install it all

Mansierre! LMAO, that's a good one! Valdez, that looks great. Hope you don't mind if your idea suddenly becomes quite popular with us here. If you don't mind my asking, what did it cost?

I don't know what Frank will ask for the Mansierre. I did some trading and a little cash for it. Feel free to get one or yourself ffrom Frank.

Great news! I got in touch with Frank and he is definitely going to build me one. He says yours is the first...but I told him the same thing...he may have more orders once everyone see this.

It is costing me around $150.00...but I'm okay with that for a custom quality build. I will post a photo or two once I get it, but it might be a week or two now.

I'm just stoked I caught him in time!

Cheers....Kris

I thought the ones that say they have a felt back to protect the tank would be okay. Is that not the case ??

Not once dirt and stuff gets between them and they start rubbing.

Gotcha, so it would need regular cleaning at a minmal. Thanks

Someone just recently,Radco I think, was talking about how the dirt got in between his saddlebag chaps and did damage with deep scratches to his clearcoat.. I wouldn't want that to happen to my tank.

I suppose a good coat of wax is in order and a regular check-up as well. Damn if that thing won't look good tho'...

I just ordered my highway bar coves for my 1600. I've been wanting those ever since I spied Trip's. I tried to talk him out of them, but for some reason he wouldn't part with them. Some folks are just downright unreasonable. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Showed the wife and she sez it looks "ucky." The only taste the women ever had was when she married me. Ha
