Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the wheels. There is so much stuff in the way that I find it difficult, especially the rear. I do pull off the bags but it is still a pain.

pulling the bag is the best way I know of. of course while the bag is off you can clean the backside of the bag too. Use a big rag in the front or something on a handle.

Got any kids that like to ride with Dad? Sounds like a good toll for ride time. Dear daughter Sarah helps me clean my bike.

John,
Unfortunately, the best way(s) have been mentioned: removing the bags and getting in there and painstakingly attend to each nook and crannie.

A second-best (and it's a distant 2nd best) is to use something like "Wheel brite" or some kind of spray on cleaner. It won't get the wheels as sparkly clean and show-room new looking as good ol' elbow grease, but it's better than nothing!

My $.02,
Daryl

Thanks for all the suggestions. Doesn't look like there is any easy way to do this. LW, All my kids have grown up and moved away. Looks like you are a brother firefighter. I have just retired with 30 years of service. I am enjoying retirement but I miss the job. At least I have time to clean my wheels! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Excellent idea! Like the Beatles said "We like to keep our fire engine clean. It's a clean machine" http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

You are only as old as you feel. I feel like I'm 25, except my knees hurt, I've had 2 shoulder surgeries, I can't see anything without my glasses, Got a herniated disc in my back. I can't think of anything else. Oh wait, my mind is going too! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

I only wash the rear wheel about every 3 washes, then I pull the bags. I wear a fleece mitten and dip it in soapy water. It gets in all the nooks real well.

Well now.... that must shock and disgust the neighbors! I just wear jeans and a t-shirt when I wash my bike. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I need to wash mine too.

As for retirement, I would be in line to retire in 5 years, but my wife and I got a little frisky a while back, and my youngest son is 8. Dam those fast swimmers.

Bought my 07 in June. Haven't washed the wheels yet. Bike gets washed every time I get home after a ride. Wheels, I don't plan on ever washing them. I guess White Walls are out of the question http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

After removing the bags and the passenger seat, I use my $59.99 Harbor Freight motorcycle lift (ITEM 2792-4VGA) and jack it up just high enough for both wheels to clear the ground. Then, with a bucket of car wash soap and a mitt, I can easily turn the wheels as I clean them. With the seat off I can also clean a lot easier around top part of the fender. I only do this when the whole bike is really dirty.

I just take a BIG wash rag and jam it up along side the wheel. Sometimes move the bike a few feet to get that hard to get to part.

Either you are hard core, or I'm a major slacker.

Remove the bags and try "Bike-Brite". You just spray and rinse. I just use it on hard to get to places. Its about 10 bucs a bottle. But it works.

Bike-Brite or similar product -- spray and rinse. I use a leaf blower to dry it off spot free. Of course Grandkids are a great alternative!!

Soap and water work ok if you stay on top of it, spray nine on the tuff grease stains if any.
