Ignition Key not needed (Old Tip, New Thread)

With your ignition key in the "on position", remove the key. You can now gently turn the ignition slightly to the left to turn it off. Now you won't need your key to turn it back on again. Just turn it to the left enough to turn it off, but not so far as to put it in the "locked off position".

Once you get used to doing this you won't have to use your key for the ignition any longer, but remember to carry one somewhere accessible on your bike, because you will need it for gas one day and you won't have the key. Yes, I know this......

This must be a 1600 thing only with the ignition up on the tank?

I learned this ignition trick at this year's rally. It comes in handy when you want to turn off the lights but don't want to hassle with the key. I learned several other tricks at the rally from so many good people.

I use that trick if I'm going to be off the bike for short periods and nearby, like when filling up. I would shut it off proper if I wasn't going to be in the immediate vicinity. You never know who else might know that trick.

Yes 1600 key...... I've done this long enough, I forget to do the complete turn off now

I do it like CJ, as long as it's going to be "in sight" I'll just switch it off, but if I'm going inside some where, I'll switch it all the way off, same with the lock on the trunk too.

I've been doing this for a while. Not sure if it works with the 1500, side ignition, b ut it does work with the 1600.

Like CJ, I turn my ignition all the way off when I've parked somewhere that I'm a little more suspicious of. Never know who might know that trick too.

Not to hijack into a dealer-bashing, but when I picked my bike up from it's initial service, I turned it on and then pulled the key and clipped it to a carabiner on my belt so the keyring wouldn't scratch. The service tech said "Whoa, I didn't know you could do that!".

When I picked mine up, the service tech showed me that I cold remove the key after switching on, but I didn't know about not needing the key if you don't turn it all the way off, untill I found out about it from another member here. Like it's been said so many times before, "Thanks Trip" for starting this forum, AND, "Thanks to all the members" that share their information too! I really enjoy this forum, and the folks that are on here.
