View Full Version : Things a Nomad can do (Skate Video now)

I've wanted to go to a certain state park for a while now and ride a bowl there. Last night I got my chance. There was a huge rain storm here, 2 1/2 inches in an hour. Lots of flooding. I figured the cops were busy enough rescuing people to worry about curfew violations at the skate park, so I took my opportunity.
Unfortunately the lights go out when the park closes, the picture isn't very good. I'll have to try it sometime at 5:00 am and get some better pictures.
Believe it or not, that wall is almost completely vertical, doesn't look like it in the dark picture so much.
It was a very enjoyable time :)
More things a Nomad can do.

I went back and got some daytime pics to show where I was really riding. Wish my riding pics could be done in the daytime. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I guess I'm a big chicken...I wouldn't try some of those adventures on my ATV. Dan I'm waiting to see the "Monster Mudder" back tire on your Nomad.

Dan, you continue to amaze me with what you can do with a Nomad!
P.S. Did you ever work in the carny riding in the "barrel of death?" With a Nomad? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Okay, okay, is that supposed to be a "state" park or a "skate" park? Either way, I thought the pic of your nad on the rock cliff edge was nuts, considering you had to get off on the kickstand side, but now this?

Dan, you're the man in my opinion. Your courage and willingness to take the bike to its limits is awesome.
But you still can't use my bike at any time.

seeing those pics, make me wonder where Dan will take his Nomad in Custer next year. Can anyone say, "Mt. Rushmore, here Dan comes." LOL
Don't worry Dan. We'll bail you out if it becomes necessary.

Hey, wasn't this guy our former "Chief Safety/Riding Officer"? Ah-ha! I see you were saving that video until you were promoted to "Chief Travel/Trip Consultant". I guess anyone who can pull off some of those moves is the knows the limits of the Nomad best. Nice pics.

Dan, I'm wondering if this is what you have in mind for Custer next year? Living On The edge is one thing but going over the edge is another. Would not what to lose The NAD. Hell use
a Harley next time who cares if it goes over the edge you can find plenty of them Laying around. BE SAFE AND RIDE SAFE ! All The best in your new position as Trip consutant .DJH

I amended the original post to add this pictures showing what it looks like in the daytime.
I would have loved to get the ride photographed this clearly, but as I said, I went and did it during a flood when all the cops were busy, and the skate park was closed. The only other time it would probably work and be light is at like 5:00am.

For the record, I'll explain the thought that goes into doing these challenges.
The bike on the rock challenge was the hardest of everything I've done. Getting the bike up there, and then getting the kickstand down (no place to put your right foot as you put it down) (can't put it down as you ride, as the engine would die) was the most difficult one to figure out the logistics of.
I always plan these things out, not just go for it. That expression about what follows, "hey guys, watch this" is probably true. Mine go more like- see it as I'm riding by and wonder "could I"? Then I do a U-turn and go back and have a look.
As I'm looking I plan out where the bike would go, and what type of physics will influence it. I figure out inertia, center of gravity, and traction and anything else that will influence how the bike will respond. Then I figure in my own skill and if it all comes out right, I go for it.
I know my own skills well enough, and I know how a bike responds well enough, that each time I do something, I am highly confident that it is going to work. So far, there have been no surprises, all of them went just how I thought they would, and each sensation as I'm doing it was just what I expected to feel. I am very aware of what to expect before I ever do it.
Planning out the kickstand on the rock was the most difficult.

Yup I built the video that day and then that night was the flood that let me go to the skate park.
I'll be keeping my eye out for opportunities at Custer

Dan the number one question. How did you drop in and get out. I know skateparks and have never seen or been to one where there was not a steel lip and at least a 2 foot drop.

This one has a ramp coming in from each corner on the opposite end, with the bowl only on one end. That is what first caught my attention. I saw the ramps and thought, hey, I could get my bike in here :)

If your not living on the edge,
Your taking up to much room.
Dan, buggered if I will ride with you at night!!! At least during the day I might see what is coming!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
ps. Kenevil LIVES!!! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Dan, you explore the unknown for the Nomad so we don't have to. OK, so appointing you the Trip/Travel Consultant from the Safety/Riding Officer was a good move...LOL.
You have to admit, you don't see anyone else doing this on a Nomad.....only on KawaNOW.
Thanks Dan for getting our minds out of the box and looking at what a Nomad can do.
BTW, if you need someone to photograph you at night, just let me know. I'll follow you down there.

I wish you could have filmed it with a better camera. I had some skate punks who were lingering do it for me. I asked them if they would feel disrespected if I rode my motorcycle around it. They said "hell no, if you have the guts to do it nobody here would care, they'd think it's awesome".
Then they saw what bike I was on and about died. They had pictured a small bike. I asked one to film for me (that was a still from a video shot from my Canon, so no flash) hoping that he wouldn't just steal it and run :(
There was about five of them and they went from being totally amazed and calling friends to tell them what was going to happen and getting their cell phone cameras out........to not being as amazed and wanting me to go faster. But of course I'm too "mature" to play to the crowd, and didn't go faster :)
Next time you are in Denver, bring your camera :)

After you & trip do another "unofficial" ride have you considered writing the city and asking for permission to do it officially? A lot of times red tape can be cut by asking and signing away on a liability waiver.
Try it, it never hurts to ask.
Remember, it's all in how you write the report. IE it's how important you make the request sound. ;)

After watching the video, it's even easier to respect what you are doing. Not because you got in there and rode around, but because you didn't just go for the speed aspect of the ride. I'm sure it would have been too easy to do something stupid in there but you didn't and I can respect that.
Now don't you ever do that again young man! You've had us all just worried sick over your foolishness! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
