Hello, all you Nomad enthusiasts! I’ve been lurking about in the background reading your posts and comments and finally decided to jump in too. My bike is a 2006 Nad 1600 that I got last April 07. I’ve got almost 6K on it and have loved every minute in the saddle. In June I took a trip from Kennewick, WA to San Francisco, CA to Reno, NV, to Winnemucca, NV and back home. Just over 1900 miles.

Last month I was sitting in my truck at a stoplight and a stock Nomad rolled ahead of me. Although a beautiful machine, there was just no sound coming out of it. Right then I decided to put a custom exhaust system on my bike and get some sound out of my big twin. I wanted to be a little different too. I opted for a Cobra Speedster Xtra Longs Exhaust System as I hope you can see in the photo. I bought a Power Commander to go with it.

I put the exhaust system on myself but I had a full tank of gas at the time and didn’t want to struggle getting the tank off to plug in the Power Commander. I took it to the local Kawasaki dealer and had them put on the Power Commander and dyno tune it. Now comes the good part….. when I brought it in to the dealership, it was getting 58.33 max power and 83.93 max torque. After they tuned it on the dyno, it got 62.93 max power and 86.62 max torque. And, my oh my, the sound is beautiful. No crackling or backfiring. Throttle response is smooth as silk, and it starts and runs easily with a little high idle on a cold morning, then quickly settling down to a frumpfity frumpfity. It has never died on me at a stoplight and it certainly doesn’t act like it ever will. The extra power and smoothness is downright sensual.

At 75-85 mph, you can hear the exhaust but it is not annoying in any way. I am very, very pleased with it. I have not had an opportunity to check the gas mileage with the new exhaust system, but just after the engine was broke in (before the new exhaust) I got 45.6 mpg at a steady 65 mph. That was the best I ever got because I rarely stay at that speed. It’s just not the nature of the beast.

BnG, welcome. A dealer with a dyno, now that is interesting. Sounds like it has paid off for you. Now you need to put a big air kit on and go back for a tweak on the dyno. From what I've read that will improve performance even more but mileage will suffer.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Can anybody recommend a good air kit I might install on my bike?

By the way, I named it "Raul" (roll the R and make that "ul" just drool. I figured that was an appropriate name for a Japanese bike??? I like to say, "My nim is Rrrrraaooooool. I am ze pooooll boy."

Now.... how the heck can I reduce my signature picture???

Thanks again,
BnG

Did you change the intake or is it stock? I think you could improve on those HP & FTLB readings if you opened up the intake.
